  • Patent number: 8964649
Abstract: The present invention provides a method involving a configurable random access channel structure. One embodiment of the method includes generating a random access channel burst that includes a cyclic prefix and a selected number of repetitions of a preamble. The number of repetitions is selected based on at least one of a cell radius and a radio transmission frequency. This embodiment of the method also includes transmitting the random access channel burst over an air interface.

  • Patent number: 8891361
Abstract: A method is provided of transfer of a call connection connecting a telecommunications base station and a mobile user terminal between dedicated channels in both directions therebetween and shared channels in both directions therebetween. The transfer is made dependent upon the amount of data buffered at the base station and the user terminal for transmission therebetween and/or the rate that data arrives at the base station and user terminal for transmission therebetween. The transfer is also dependent upon the value of a measured parameter of the signals between the base station and the user terminal, the parameter being signal attenuation or propagation delay.

  • Patent number: 8155638
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for testing mobile communications in a High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) mobile communications network by generating one or more virtual users. Specifically, a high speed downlink shared channel is scheduled for a user (e.g., a real user or a virtual user) in a plurality of users. One or more network resources are then allocated by a virtual user executable module to the high speed downlink shared channel for a virtual user in the plurality of users.

Date of Patent: April 10, 2012
    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent

  • Patent number: 6944458
Abstract: A method is provided of selecting length of time of inactivity on a channel dedicated by a telecommunications base station to communications with a first user terminal to be detected for the channel to be released for use by another user terminal. The length of time is selected dependent upon the expected base station transmit power required for communications to the first user terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050037769
Abstract: A method is provided of alleviating an overload condition of a base station of a code division multiple access (CDMA) network for mobile telecommunications. The base station has a plurality of mobile user terminals in its radio coverage area. At least some of the mobile user terminals are in a first mode in which a request for non-emergency call connection can be made. The method involves detecting an overload condition of the base station and in response transferring a mobile user terminal from said first mode to a second mode in which the mobile user terminal can no longer make a request for non-emergency call connection.

  • Publication number: 20050032555
Abstract: A method is provided of intermittent activation of receiving circuitry of a mobile user terminal so as to listen to a paging channel. The activation is periodic. The period is selected dependent upon either the time of day or which of a plurality of types of service is provided in the last call connection to the mobile user terminal.

  • Publication number: 20040252719
Abstract: A radio telecommunications network is provided comprising a first station and a second station. The first station is operative to send packets of data to the second station. The packets are of a predetermined length. The second station is operative to receive the data and send to the first station indicators of which packets of data from the first station have been accurately received. The second station is also operative to measure received signal quality and to send information of received signal quality to the first station. The first station is operative to select dependent upon said information a different length for further packets to be sent to the second station.
