  • Patent number: 8769091
Abstract: A system for tracing operations executed by a network device on a packet wherein a network device may capture a packet and determine whether the packet is a candidate for tracing; if the packet is a candidate for tracing the network device may set a trace option identifier within the packet indicating that the packet is to be tagged in association with operations performed on or in association with the packet by the network device. The network device may tag the packet with one or more tags in response to the trace option identifier, export the packet with the trace option identifier, generate a report based on the tags and send the report to a network management station.

  • Patent number: 8209747
Abstract: Methods and systems for associating an event log entry with the rule that triggered its creation are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus is described. The apparatus has an event handling device for applying a plurality of rules; an event log with a plurality of log entries, and a hash value appender for appending a hash value log entries. When the event handling device performs an application of one of the rules, an entry is created in said event log, and the hash value generator appends a unique hash value to the entry. The unique hash value corresponds to the rule that was applied.

  • Patent number: 7930693
Abstract: A method for launching an interface with a remotely located electronic device. Specifically, a loader that is locally installed is launched. The loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device. Communication is established with the remote device to access a first checksum value that is stored on the remote device. Thereafter, the first checksum value is compared against a second checksum value of a locally stored version of the embedded application. The locally stored version of the embedded application is launched when the first check value matches the second checksum value.

  • Patent number: 7898963
Abstract: A method for graphically displaying a packet progression within a network device is described. The method includes identifying a plurality of phases that correspond to an operation of a plurality of operations performed on said packet. The method further includes displaying the plurality of phases. The method further includes indicating progression of the packet through the plurality of phases.

  • Patent number: 7818274
Abstract: Approaches to automatic generation of event handling rules are presented. In one approach, a system for automatic event handling rule generation includes a system log file, containing a syslog entry. A rule module is used to interpret the syslog entry. An entry format depository is available to the rule module, and contains a description of the general format corresponding to the syslog entry. An entry causation depository is available to the rule module, and contains both a cause for the syslog entry's creation, and a solution template corresponding to the syslog entry. The rule module uses the general format to parse information from the syslog entry, and uses that information to locate the cause and a solution template. The rule module then uses the information from the syslog entry to complete the solution template, thereby generating a rule to alter the behavior which caused the syslog entry to be created.

  • Patent number: 7738403
Abstract: Methods and systems for determining the operations performed on packets by a network device are described. A simulated packet is input into a network device. The path taken by the simulated packet is traced. Also, the operations performed on the simulated packet are logged. Further, the operations performed on the simulated packet and configuration information of the operations are analyzed and displayed.
