  • Patent number: 7327123
Abstract: A control system that can accommodate the wide variations in the output of a generator, such as a permanent magnet alternator, while providing an output with relatively uniform phase ripple. The control system includes a zero crossing detector and variable ramp generator for generating control signals to a switching rectifier to generate a regulated DC signal.

  • Patent number: 6217695
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying an extrudable material to a substrate, in which a concentrated light beam is directed onto the substrate before or after the application of the extrudable material. The energy of the beam is concentrated on the substrate surface, wherein it is subsequently transferred to the extrudable material deposited on its surface, thereby increasing the temperature and lowering the viscosity of the closely situated material so as to facilitate material penetration into the substrate. This method allows the use of illumination of modest energy density, of wavelengths absorbed by the extrudable material, or of such cross-sectional extent that it may not be transmitted through the extrusion device by which the extrudable material is deposited.

  • Patent number: 5978236
Abstract: An uninterruptible power supply is disclosed in which the backup energy source is connected to the power supply of the protected computer by means of a bi-directional power converter. This converter operates without sensing circuitry, relays, or switches, operating continuously when a load is present in either charging or discharging the backup energy source. This uninterruptible power supply can be placed within the available space of a functioning standard computer power supply enclosure, and may be configured so that it may be replaced during normal computer operation (i.e. it is "hot swappable"). Methods are described to interface the uninterruptible power supply to the computer, providing mutual control and communication. The device may be also used to power devices requiring external DC power, which are commonly found in association with computer operations.

  • Patent number: 4864482
Abstract: A conversion circuit is provided which includes a negative temperature coefficient resistance between a rectifier and a storage capacitor to limit inrush current when power is applied to the circuit after a power interruption of a relatively long duration. When power is resumed after a short term power interruption and the resistance of the negative temperature coefficient resistance is still low, inrush current is limited by disconnecting a load from the conversion circuit immediately upon the occurrence of the power interruption to maintain the charge on the storage capacitor for the duration of the interruption. A boost regulator unit is provied between the negative temperature coefficient resistance and the storage capacitor to provide a regulated direct current potential across the capacitor which is not responsive to input power variations.
