  • Publication number: 20090170133
Abstract: The subject invention provides a method for determining whether a human subject afflicted with long-lasting irritable bowel disease (IBD) has an increased risk for developing colon cancer comprising: (a) determining the concentration of intact IGFBP-3 in a suitable cell-free bodily fluid sample taken from the subject; and (b) determining whether the concentration of intact IGFBP-3 determined in step (a) is indicative of an increased risk of colon cancer in a human subject afflicted with long-lasting IBD. This invention also provides a kit for performing the instant method.

  • Publication number: 20070142289
Abstract: A method of inhibiting proliferation of cells associated with a tumor in a subject which comprises administering to the subject a tumor cell proliferation amount of IGF-BP3, thereby inhibiting proliferation of the cells. An improved surgical method which comprises surgically resecting a tumor from a subject and administering to the subject an amount of a protein effective to inhibit metastasis of any tumor cells released in the subject's blood circulation during the surgical resection of the tumor.

  • Publication number: 20060084603
Abstract: The subject invention provides a method of inhibiting the proliferation of cells associated with a tumor in a subject which comprises administering to the subject between about 10 ?g/kg and about 100 mg/kg of IGF-BP3, thereby inhibiting proliferation of the cells. The subject invention further provides a surgical method which comprises surgically resecting a tumor from a subject and administering to the subject between about 10 ?g/kg and about 100 mg/kg of IGF-BP3, so as to inhibit metastasis of any tumor cells released in the subject's blood circulation during resection of the tumor. The subject invention further provides a surgical method which comprises performing a surgical procedure on a subject and administering to the subject between about 10 ?g/kg and about 100 mg/kg of IGF-BP3, so as to inhibit proliferation of a tumor cell in the subject.
