The policy node obtains an identifier related to the user equipment, an identifier of a policy counter and a set of policy counter statuses to be monitored by the policy node. The set of policy counter statuses are related to the identifier of the policy counter. The policy node sends, a request for reporting of policy counter statuses related to the user equipment for the policy counter. The request includes the identifier related to the user equipment, the identifier of the policy counter and the set of policy counter statuses. A policy counter status of the set of policy counter statuses is determined. The policy counter status has changed as determined by the charging node. A response to the request is sent and includes the policy counter status that has changed.

A method for managing network resources in a policy and charging system of a communication network comprises receiving at a second node an indication about a state of a server resource of a first node; determining whether or not an activity of a service session associated with a connection between a client and the second node is below an activity threshold; and if the activity is determined to be below the activity threshold, instructing a termination of a bearer resource assigned to the service session.

Abstract: For authorizing redirection services in a policy and charging control architecture, a policy and charging control rules function (PCRF) server determines control rules and redirection information per service in an internet protocol connectivity access network session, and a policy charging and enforcement function (PCEF) device receives control rules and redirection information per service basis, determines redirection per service request, and triggers the redirection. Upon a first request for a service, the PCEF device returns a redirection message with a redirection identifier; and upon completion of the service redirection, the first request for the service reaching the PCEF, the PCEF verifies the service is authorized and submits a service allowance toward the service server in charge of the service. Methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: Handling a plurality of Presence Reporting Areas, PRAs, may currently present inconsistencies between the PRAs active in a policy controller and those PRAs active in a network node handling UE mobility, e.g. MME/SGSN. To overcome these and other drawbacks, there are provided enhanced policy controller, network node and method of handling a plurality of PRAs. This method comprises selecting, at the policy controller, a plurality of applicable PRAs; transmitting from the policy controller, and receiving at the network node, the plurality of applicable PRAs; selecting, at the network node from the plurality of applicable PRAs, a number of PRAs to be active at the network node; and transmitting from the network node, and receiving at the policy controller, at least one of: an indication on whether a UE is inside or outside a PRA, and an indication on whether a PRA is or is not accepted to be active by the network node.

The indication may specify that a change in type of radio access technology, as used by a user equipment for connecting to the telecommunications network, is to be reported from the first node to the second node. The second node may provide additional information to the first node to further specify a subtype of the event to be reported. The additional information may specify at least one type of radio access technology. Based on detecting the event of the specified event type and subtype, e.g., a change to or from a specific type of radio access technology, the first node sends a report of the detected event to the second node.
