Patent number: 11362539Abstract: An artificial intelligence reactive power control system for low voltage ride-through in a grid connected distributed generation network includes a grid, a circuit breaker, a distributed generation circuit including 3-phase terminals, and a voltage and current measurement unit connected to the 3-phase terminals and configured to generate a set of measured variables. An intelligent low voltage ride-through detector receives the set of measured variables and identifies a low voltage ride-through status of the utility grid. An intelligent reactive power controller receives a low voltage ride-through status signal from the intelligent low voltage ride-through detector and controls a low voltage ride-through during a grid voltage sag and a voltage reduction by transmitting one or more of an active power reference and a reactive power reference value to the distributed generation circuit based on the low voltage ride-through status signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2021Date of Patent: June 14, 2022Assignee: King Abdulaziz UniversityInventors: Md Mottahir Alam, Ibrahim M. Patent number: 11329373Abstract: A planar antenna includes a radiator and a ground plane, where the radiator is formed on the ground plane. The radiator includes a printed microstrip line. The radiator includes a human face-shaped radiator pattern printed on a side of the substrate. The human face-shaped radiator pattern has an elliptical head portion, two eye portions with printed eyeball portions, two ear portions, and a mouth portion. The printed microstrip line connects to the human face-shaped radiator pattern. The ground plane includes first, second, and third circular defect areas printed on back side of the substrate. The first and second circular defect areas have the same diameter, while the third circular defect area has a diameter smaller than the first and second circular defect areas. The third circular defect area is closer to an end surface of the ground plane than the first and second circular defect areas.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2021Date of Patent: May 10, 2022Assignee: King Abdulaziz UniversityInventors: Md Mottahir Alam, Rezaul Azim, Mohammad Tariqul Islam, Asif Irshad Khan, Ibrahim M. Patent number: 8152018Abstract: A container is disclosed, generally having an open top defined by an annular rim, a base, and a sidewall extending between the top and the base. The sidewall has two arcuately formed longitudinal recesses, an annular rib, an annular shoulder located between the longitudinal recesses and the base, and a lower portion extending between the annular shoulder and the base. The annular shoulder is characterized by two arched portions aligned with the longitudinal recesses, and the lower portion has two beveled portions aligned with the longitudinal recesses. This container is more ergonomic, and has greater sidewall strength and rigidity, than existing containers.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2005Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Solo Cup Operating CorporationInventors: Stephen Alan Smith, Kevin Ray Smith, Warren Giles Wiedmeyer, Kimberly Vaile Healy, Randy Golden, Rudy DesChamps, Irshad Khan, Bryce C. Patent number: 7775257Abstract: The invention concerns a casting apparatus which includes a crucible support and induction heating means (14, 16, 18) arranged to receive and support a crucible (10) containing material which is to be melted and poured from an outlet (38). The outlet is positioned on a vertical axis (40). The support and induction heating means also operates to apply induction heating to the material to melt it in the crucible. There is also a translation mechanism which tilts the crucible while the crucible is still supported and while heat is continuously applied to it. This mechanism operates in such a way that during tilting, the outlet of the crucible is maintained on the vertical axis so that the molten material pours from the outlet on the vertical axis. In the embodiments described, the crucible is simultaneously moved vertically towards the mould into which the melt pours.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2005Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: University of Cape TownInventors: Irshad Khan, Wessel Marthinus Cronje
