  • Patent number: 6648241
Abstract: A life extending, pop-up sprinkler comprising a riser pipe, a collar, a pop-up shaft with a threaded head, an O-ring, a weight, and a spray insert. The riser pipe is threaded at both ends. The lower threads are designed to mate with the specially threaded cavity in the sprinkler head body. Threaded onto the upper threads is the collar, which has a opening, having a hexagonal (or other shaped) cross-section, in its upper web. Sliding inside this opening is the cylindrical pop-up shaft which has a mating, outer, hexagonal (or other matching shaped) cross-section. The O-ring is slipped over the lower end of the shaft and a cylindrical (or other shaped) weight is screwed onto the lower end of the shaft. Both the O-ring and the weight are of larger diameters than the shaft so as to preclude leakage. The upper end of the shaft terminates in a cylindrical pop-up head which is also larger in diameter than the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6474564
Abstract: A targeting, small wildland fire extinguisher dropping system comprising: a droppable extinguisher package, adapted for filling and handling, for containing fire suppressant solution, and bursting when it hits a target on the ground full of said fire suppressant solution and dropped from a height; a quantity of fire suppressant solution inside said droppable extinguisher package; and a package dispenser, adapted for suspending, for holding said droppable extinguisher package and dropping said droppable extinguisher package upon command. A stirrer adapted to be inserted into said droppable extinguisher package for stirring said fire suppressant solution may also be provided.

  • Patent number: 6364026
Abstract: A fire fighting system comprising a set of unmanned, aircraft, fire detection subsystems; a set of launch-on-need, unmanned aircraft, fire suppression subsystems; and a manned, central, robotic vehicle flight control and monitoring station. When deployed, the robotic survey vehicles continuously patrol the wildland so that fires can be detected when they first start. The robotic extinguisher vehicles, which contain fire suppressant or extinguisher are deployed on rocket assist or other automated take-off launchers at critical locations throughout the wildland. The pilot at the central monitoring station controls the flight path of the survey vehicles and continuously receives video and fire scan information from them. Upon detection of a fire signal, its position is determined via use of a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system and permission is sought from the applicable security agency to launch an extinguisher vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6324393
Abstract: Auto Locating Emergency Rescue Transmitter (ALERT), is an automatic emergency signal generator that broadcasts a radio frequency (rf) signal that can be locally received across the entire AM band spectrum for guiding rescuers to the location of a distressed automobile, aircraft or other vehicle that may also be outside of anyone's cognizance. The preferred embodiment includes an additional amplifier/modulator with a pre-recorded voice or tone-coded message that may be installed in or provided as an adjunct to the vehicle's existing radio. To use this embodiment, rescuers may determine the location of the distressed vehicle by standard rf signal tracking techniques. However, using recently available technologies, an alternate embodiment provides map grid co-ordinates to rescuers via a link to the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) System. In either embodiment activation of the system is accomplished via an inertia switch or manual override switch in the vehicle.
