    Abstract: Protective nonwoven fabrics effective in protecting articles with sensitive surfaces from damage caused by dust, dirt or other particulate contaminants are disclosed. The protective nonwoven fabric of the present invention which is an electret treated spunbond nonwoven web comprising thermoplastic fibers wherein the nonwoven web is bonded with a pattern having continuous bonded areas defining a plurality of discrete unbonded areas has been discovered to protect sensitive surfaces of articles with sensitive surfaces. The sensitive surface protective materials of the present invention has the ability to capture and entrap dirt, dust and other contaminants and prevent the redepositing of these contaminants onto the sensitive surfaces. The material is disclosed as being useful for preparing sleeves for holding and storing articles with sensitive surfaces, for example, compact disc.

    Abstract: A durable, single or multi-use cooling garment is provided having a multilayer structure. The cooling garment includes an inner layer of a thermoplastic polymer material that is liquid impermeable and vapor permeable, an outer liquid permeable reinforcing layer such as a web of thermoplastic polymer fibers, and a central absorbent layer that contains a stabilized matrix of about 55% to 95% cellulosic fibers and from about 5% to 45% thermoplastic polymer fibers. The layers are bonded together and the absorbent layer is bonded to at least one of the other layers by regionally applying sufficient energy to the layers wherein the thermoplastic polymers melt and resolidify to form inter-fiber bonds. The cooling garment can be saturated with water or other liquids and provide the wearer with relief from the heat such as may be achieved by evaporative cooling.

    Abstract: A breathing mask fabric is provided which has between 50 and 95 weight percent of a through-air bonded, electret treated, nonwoven microfiber first web of fibers where the fibers have an average diameter of between about 10 and 25 microns and where the first web has a Frazier Permeability above about 100 CFM/SF, a density of between about 0.015 and 0.15 gms/cc, and a basis weight between about 67 gsm and about 340 gsm, and between about 5 and 50 weight percent of an electret treated microfiber second web of fibers where the fibers have an average diameter of less than about 10 microns.
