    Abstract: Methods of treatment of cancer, including prostate cancer, in a subject in need thereof are provided according to aspects of the present disclosure which include administering an effective amount of an inhibitor of a pro-inflammatory factor to the subject, wherein the pro-inflammatory factor is dysregulated in the subject, and wherein the inhibitor is an inhibitor of a pro-inflammatory factor selected from the group consisting of: interleukin-1?, interleukin-6, interleukin-8, interleukin-10, stromal cell-derived factor-1?, matrix metallopeptidase 9, epithelial-derived neutrophil-activating peptide 78, receptor for advanced glycation end products, TNF-?, HER2, CXCR4, and leptin. Assays of these factors, or subsets thereof, provide a pro-inflammatory cytokine score useful in determining a characteristic of the cancer, particularly aggressiveness.
