  • Patent number: 11989026
Abstract: An autonomous mobile device (AMD) may perform tasks within a physical space. The AMD may move over ramps, bumps, or navigate around obstacles. The AMD may have an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and distance sensors. The IMU provides tilt information indicative of the AMD being on a flat surface or a ramp. The distance sensors provide information on distances between the AMD and surrounding obstacles. Using IMU measurements, the AMD determines a first speed limit that is safe given the tilt of the AMD. Using the distance sensors, the AMD determines a second speed limit that is safe given a distance to an obstacle. The AMD determines a maximum speed based on the first and second speed limits. Based on the maximum speed, the AMD determines whether to adjust a current speed and by how much.

  • Patent number: 11317182
Abstract: A portable audio input/output device may include one or more openings that extend through a cover of the device and allow acoustic signals outside a housing of the device to reach a microphone disposed within the housing. The opening(s) may be illuminated by a light guide disposed within the housing, which scatters light emitted from lights disposed within the housing. In some instances, a hole may pass through a printed circuit board to allow acoustic signals to be received by the microphone disposed below the printed circuit board. An input/output (I/O) interface module with multiple buttons and inputs may be installed in the hole. The multiple buttons and I/O ports of the I/O interface module may be aligned along an axis vertical relative to the housing and centered with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 11287565
Abstract: Devices that include light assemblies for providing visual feedback to users that operate the electronic devices. In some instances, the devices comprise voice-controlled devices and, therefore, include one or more microphones for receiving audible commands from the users. After receiving a command, for instance, one such voice-controlled device may cause a corresponding light assembly of the device to illuminate in some predefined manner. This illumination may indicate to the user that device has received the command. In other instances, the devices may illuminate the lighting assembly for an array of other purposes. For instance, one such device may illuminate the corresponding light assembly when powering on or off, playing music, outputting information to a user (e.g., via a speaker or display), or the like.

  • Patent number: 10586351
Abstract: Devices and techniques are generally described for estimation of ambient light levels. In various examples, an image sensor may capture a frame of image data. In some examples, an ambient light value of the frame may be determined. In some examples, a first region of the frame corresponding to a first physical characteristic and a second region of the frame corresponding to a second physical characteristic may be determined. In various examples, a first reflection coefficient associated with the first physical characteristic and a second reflection coefficient associated with the second physical characteristic may be determined. In some examples, an IR correction value may be determined for the frame of image data based at least in part on the first reflection coefficient and the second reflection coefficient. An estimated ambient light value may be determined based at least in part on the IR correction value and the ambient light value.

  • Publication number: 20170263011
Abstract: The recognition of objects such as clothing items can be improved by capturing image data that represents the material characteristics and true color of the object. A high resolution image can be captured that shows the individual threads and/or fibers, among other possible pattern or texture characteristics. Various approaches are discussed for determining the scale of these features to more accurately determine the way the material is made. Further, approaches are discussed that enable the true color of the material to be determined, through hardware and/or software, to further improve the accuracy of such a determination. The material and color properties can be combined with a conventional object recognition process to provide accurate object identification and/or authentication results.

  • Patent number: 9746752
Abstract: In some examples, a projection display surface is configured to reflect a first image or image portion in a first direction and a second image or image portion in a second direction. In some cases, first light corresponding to the first image is projected onto a display surface that includes a first plurality of reflectors configured to reflect the first light in a first direction, but not reflect second light corresponding to the second image. The display surface may further include a second plurality of reflectors to reflect the second light in a second direction, but not reflect the first light. In some examples, the first light is within a first wavelength range and the second light is within a second, different wavelength range. In other examples, the first light has a first polarization and the second light has a second, different polarization.

  • Patent number: 9739609
Abstract: Techniques to determine a distance associated with a surface using time-of-flight (ToF) of pulses of light occurring at a predetermined frequency. A ToF camera may include a light emitter that emits light according to one or more phase delays relative to the configured of a first storage device of multiple storage devices of the ToF camera to receive light, convert to current, and store a charge corresponding to current. For instance, a light emitter may emit pulses at a 0° phase delay (i.e., simultaneously with the opening of the first storage device), a 90° phase delay, a 180° phase delay, and a 270° phase delay. Light captured and stored as energy in the storage devices may be then be analyzed to estimate a distance to a surface of an object in an environment. After estimating a distance between the ToF camera and a surface, the ToF camera may optimize its phase delay to reduce the error associated with a subsequent distance measurement.
