Abstract: A service compartment for machines is disclosed. The service compartment includes a face portion, a door, and a step assembly mounted proximal to the door. The step assembly is switchable between a folded configuration and an extended configuration and includes a first base plate, a second base plate, and a stopper member. The first base plate has an attachment face attached to the face portion, and a support face. The second base plate has a first face and a second face and is pivotally attached to first base plate. The stopper member is attached to second base plate. In the folded configuration, the first face substantially overlaps the support face and the step assembly is disposed within the service compartment. In the extended configuration, the first face is substantially planar to the support face and the step assembly extends at least partially outwards of the service compartment.
