  • Patent number: 4504396
Abstract: The present invention relates to a separator for the separation of non-condensables and of additives from aqueous lithium bromide used in chillers of the type using water as refrigerant and lithium bromide as absorbent, comprising a vessel of adequate size, provided with inlet means for the liquid containing the non-condensables and/or additive, outlet means for the non-condensables and for the solution enriched with additive, and outlet means for the main quantity of the solution depleted of said non-condensables and/or additive, the configuration of the vessel being such that the liquid flows therethrough in a substantially laminar stream, the time of retention in the vessel being adequate to attain the desired degree of separation. A preferred embodiment comprises a separator of horizontal configuration, comprising a conical or polyhedric shell having an opening angle of about 6.degree. to 10.degree.

  • Patent number: 4440001
Abstract: The present invention relates to a chiller of the type wherein water is used as refrigerant and lithium bromide or a similar compound as absorbant. A conduit or line is provided leading from the refrigeration pump which conveys dilute aqueous lithium bromide or similar compound, from the evaporator section. The line is provided with a valve for blocking fluid flow when not in use and for tight closure of the line. According to one embodiment, the conduit or line is adapted to be connected to a conduit leading to a purge storage tank through which dilute lithium bromide is introduced into the absorber.

  • Patent number: 4383424
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved absorption refrigeration device of the type using a lithium halide/water cycle wherein baffles defining a substantial pathway are provided over which superheated concentrated lithium halide solution is passed so as to substantially reduce the degree of superheating of such solution. The invention further relates to a process for reducing substantially the superheating of concentrated lithium halide (lithium bromide and/or lithium chloride) in absorption type refrigeration systems, which comprises contacting the superheated solution with an extensive surface (baffle), thereby reducing the superheating.

  • Patent number: 4315411
Abstract: The present invention relates to a chiller of the type using water as refrigerant and aqueous lithium bromide or the like as absorbant, wherein 2-ethyl n-hexanol or a similar compound is used as additive to said solution to improve heat transfer in the absorber, comprising a separator for separating a large part of the additive from said solution, said separator being located between the exit of the lithium bromide solution from the absorber and between the heat exchanger in the conduit leading to the generator. According to one embodiment, the separator operates on gravity separation. According to one embodiment, the separator comprises a vessel large enough for substantially slowing down the velocity of flow of the solution, provided with inlet means at its lower part, outlet means at its upper part for a small part of the solution substantially enriched respective said additive, and an outlet at its lower part for the bulk of the solution, depleted of part of the additive.
