  • Patent number: 6398519
Abstract: A swash plate compressor includes a cylinder block having positioned therein a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber. Each of a plurality of pistons has a head portion and a skirt portion. The head portion of the piston is slidably disposed within one of the cylinders. The skirt portion of the piston slidably abuts on an inside surface of the crank chamber, and by its action the pistons are prevented from nutating axes when the pistons are driven in a reciprocating motion within the cylinders upon rotation of the swash plate. The crank chamber has a truncated cone-shape, the inside diameter of which is reduced between a top dead center and a bottom dead center of the piston. The structure for the swash plate compressor according to this invention reduces vibration and noise caused by the nutation of the pistons.

  • Publication number: 20010003258
Abstract: A piston-type compressor has several cylinder bores, each of which receives a piston assembly. The piston assembly reciprocates between a top dead center and a botom dead center in each cylinder bores. The piston assembly includes a piston and a piston ring. A groove is formed at or about a top dead center of an outer peripheral surface of the piston, and having a flat bottom surface thereof. The piston ring, which has a truncated cone-shape and may be made of resin, is fitted into the groove. An external diameter of the piston ring is greater than that of the piston. The piston ring is disposed in the groove, such that the wider edge of the ring opens toward a bottom dead center of the piston and a narrower edge of the piston ring abuts the bottom surface of the groove.

  • Patent number: 6056514
Abstract: In a variable-displacement compressor of a swash plate type having a drive shaft (3) with axial ends one of which is connected to a compression mechanism, the drive shaft is urged in an outward direction which is directed from the one to another of the axial ends. A housing (2) has a cylindrical portion (21a) at an end thereof in a predetermined direction. The cylindrical portion extends in the predetermined direction. The drive shaft is rotatably held to the housing and extends within the cylindrical portion. When the drive shaft is rotated, the compression mechanism carries out a predetermined compressing operation.

  • Patent number: 6026721
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a first valve disc and a second valve disc for use in a compressor having a longitudinal axis and several cylinder chambers surrounding the axis is described. The method includes the steps of: providing a sheet of resilient valve material; stamping a through-hole having several extended openings out of the sheet to produce the first valve disc with several arms; and stamping several arch-shaped openings out of the sheet spaced around the through-hole corresponding to each of the extended openings of the through-hole to produce the second valve disc. Thus, an economical manufacturing method for obtaining a set of suction valve and discharge valve discs from a common surface area of sheet material is described. A small valve disc is obtained by stamping out the central portion of a larger valve disc. The total quantity of sheet material required for making a set of two kinds of valve discs thereby is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5983775
Abstract: In a swash-plate compressor wherein a piston (23 ) is connected through a connection mechanism to a swash plate (34) supported on a drive shaft (26), the swash plate is rotatable relative to the drive shaft around a predetermined axis extending in a given direction. The piston has a drive end portion (36) having a concave surface (37) defining a recessed portion. The swash plate is provided with a flat portion (38) loosely inserted in the recessed portion. Between the concave surface and said flat portion in the given direction, a sliding member (38a or 38b) is held to be slidable along the concave surface and the flat portion. A combination of the drive end portion, the flat portion, and the sliding member is referred to as the connection mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5490767
Abstract: A piston type compressor includes a compressor housing enclosing a crank chamber, a suction chamber, and a discharge chamber therein. The compressor housing comprises a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinders. A drive shaft is rotatably supported in the cylinder block. A plate is tiltably connected to the drive shaft and is coupled to a plurality of pistons which may be driven in a reciprocating motion within the cylinders upon rotation of the drive shaft. Each of the pistons is provided with a rotation prevention mechanism which may include a first rotation prevention device formed on the center of the piston and second rotation prevention device disposed within the compressor housing, the first and second rotation prevention devices cooperating to prevent the piston from rotating about its own axis. The first and second rotation prevention devices each have at least one sliding surface formed thereon.

  • Patent number: 5466129
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor includes a compressor housing divided at least partially by a valve plate into a first chamber comprising a compression chamber, and a second chamber comprising a discharge chamber. A fluid conduit links the compression chamber with the discharge chamber. An elastic valve member opens and closes the end of the conduit. The valve member has a predetermined spring constant such that the end opening of the conduit remains blocked until the pressure in the compression chamber reaches a predetermined value. An integral gasket is positioned between the valve plate and the front and rear housings and comprises an outermost, an intermediate and an innermost annular portion chamber. Outer ribs are connected between the outermost and the intermediate annular portion, and inner ribs are connected between the intermediate and the innermost annular portions.

  • Patent number: 4693674
Abstract: A cylinder head for a piston type refrigerant compressor is disclosed. The cylinder head of the compressor is provided with an inner partition wall and an outer peripheral wall adapted to contact a gasket of the compressor such that the interior of cylinder head is divided into a suction chamber and a discharge chamber. The inner partition wall is made slightly longer than the outer wall such that upon mounting the cylinder head to the compressor the force pressing the inner partition wall against the gasket element is substantially equal to the force pressing the outer peripheral wall against the gasket element.
