  • Patent number: 5329467
Abstract: A distance measuring method and an apparatus therefor, in which used are first and second pseudo random signals which are equal to each other in pattern but slight different from each other in frequency. A first time-series pattern obtained by multiplying the first pseudo random signal by the second pseudo random signal is generated, laser light intensity-modulated with the first pseudo random signal is radiated to a target, the light reflected from the target is received, and a intensity change of the received reflected-light is converted into an electric signal. A second time-series pattern is obtained by multiplying the electric signal as a reception signal with the second pseudo random signal. The distance to the target is measured by calculating the time difference between the first and second time-series patterns.

  • Patent number: 5323114
Abstract: An underground radar tomography in which an electromagnetic wave is radiated into the ground, the amplitude and propagation time of a transmitted wave, a reflected wave or a diffracted wave of the electromagnetic wave are measured at a number of points, and signal processing is performed on the result of measurement to thereby obtain the distribution of strata and soil in the ground as section information with a high accuracy. By use of two pseudo random signals which are slightly different in period but the same in code pattern, measurement time which is expanded relative to propagation time is obtained to thereby make the measurement accuracy high.

  • Patent number: 5182565
Abstract: Disclosed is a in-furnace slag level measuring method for measuring a slag level in a convertor and an apparatus therefor. A sublance and an antenna of a microwaver radar are arranged exchangeable therebetween so that the sublance and the antenna are alternatively inserted in to the convertor from about the convertor. The antenna is inserted into the convertor in first and middle stage of the refining operation of the converter to thereby measure the slag level, and the sublance is inserted into the convertor to thereby perform various measurement.

  • Patent number: 5115242
Abstract: Disclosed is an in-furnace slag level measuring apparatus having a microwave radar for measuring a slag level in a convertor or the like. The level of a transmission signal or a reception signal is adjusted in accordance with the level of a detection signal so that the signal level in the microwave radar is adjusted to be constant. Further, the level measurement value and the detection signal are inputted and the level measurement values obtained in a predetermined time are subjected to averaging operation. In the averaging operation, when the detection signal is smaller than a set point, the averaging operation is performed while disregarding the level measurement value at that time.

  • Patent number: 5102223
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring a three-dimensional curved surface shape based on a new measuring principle that a surface of an object to be measured is coded with information relating to a slit light which is used as a medium and moved or rotated at a constant speed. The manner in which a linear reflected pattern of the slit light is moved over the surface of the object to be measured is picked up by a television camera to form a composite image in which a value of each of picture elements in the image is represented by information relating to the slit light, e.g., a position, time or projection angle of the slit light at an instant that the slit light passes through one of positions on the object surface corresponding to that picture element.

  • Patent number: 4881126
Abstract: An image composing apparatus adapted to produce a composite image in which a value of each of picture elements is represented by a maximum value or minimum value of the brightness of a video signal as well as a corresponding other signal at the instant of the maximum or minimum value. A composite image is formed in which a value of each of picture elements is represented by a count of synchronizing signals or an externally applied timing, position or angle indicative external input signal at an instant that the video signal attains the maximum value or the minimum value for each picture element.

  • Patent number: 4874955
Abstract: A method and apparatus adapted to measure a three-dimensional curved surface shape quantitatively with high speed. A pattern of interference fringes on a surface of an object to be measured is picked up so that while moving a reference plane (or the object to be measured) in the direction of an optical axis, the resulting video signal is processed to form a composite image in which a value of each of picture elements is represented by a position of the reference plane (or a position of the object to be measured) at an instant that one of positions on the object surface corresponding to that picture element in the image attains a maximum brightness. Then, a three-dimensional curved surface shape of the object to be measured is measured on the basis of the composite image.

  • Patent number: 4258319
Abstract: The surface defect detecting apparatus for rotating cylindrical metal pieces which move in a lengthwise direction relative to a sensor block, has a plurality of eddy-current flaw detecting coils facing the test piece. The sensor block rotates about a horizontal axis extending vertically with respect to the axis of the test piece to follow up deflections of the test piece in the direction of the axis of rotation. Front and rear ends of the sensor block, have a pair of guide wheels that engage the piece; also present are color marking nozzles for marking defective areas in response to detector signals. Relative movement in the longitudinal direction of the test piece is carried out by means of a carriage carrying the sensor block.
