  • Patent number: 7934373
Abstract: In a control device for an internal combustion engine (E) of a vehicle comprising a particulate filter (42) installed in an exhaust passage of the engine and a loading device (63) that applies a load to the engine, the control device (9) is configured to execute a regeneration process for regenerating the particulate filter under a prescribed condition. When a vehicle is in a congested state, the temperature of the particulate filter typically drops below a threshold level for enabling a regenerating process. However, according to the present invention, the particulate filter may be regenerated even when the vehicle is in a congested state if a loading device such as an air conditioner is activated, and the temperature of the particulate filter is therefore high enough. Thereby, the particulate filter may be actively regenerated whenever possible.

  • Patent number: 7895831
Abstract: An exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine with a filter provided in the exhaust system of the engine, for collecting particulates from exhaust gases. An ECU carries out the post injection for additionally injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the engine after a combustion stroke of the engine to thereby perform a regeneration operation for regenerating the filter. A vehicle speed sensor detects a travel distance of a vehicle on which the engine is installed, and the ECU calculates a post injection allowable amount such that the post injection allowable amount increases in accordance with increase in the detected travel distance. During execution of the post injection, the amount of fuel injected through the post injection is subtracted from the post injection allowable amount, and when the post injection allowable amount becomes equal to or smaller than a predetermined first threshold value, the post injection is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 7611567
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a particulate filter for trapping particulates found in the exhaust gases of the engine. The regeneration process for burning the particulates trapped in the particulate filter is executed by performing post injection of fuel. The regeneration process is suppressed according to an amount of fuel injected during post injection.

  • Patent number: 7331171
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine that executes post injection, which is capable of accurately estimating the state of dilution of engine oil, thereby properly controlling the amount of oil dilution such that it does not become too large. In an internal combustion engine having an injector that injects fuel into a combustion chamber, post injection is executed in which fuel is injected from the injector during the expansion stroke or the exhaust stroke of the engine, based on a detected operating condition of the engine. The amount of dilution of engine oil diluted with fuel injected by post injection is calculated. The amount of fuel evaporated from the engine oil is calculated. A state of dilution of the engine oil is estimated based on the calculated engine dilution amount and the calculated fuel evaporation amount.

  • Publication number: 20080029064
Abstract: An exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine, which is capable of not only reliably suppressing post injection for regenerating a filter from causing oil dilution, but also enabling execution of the post injection to a maximum possible extent. The filter is provided in the exhaust system of the engine, for collecting particulates from exhaust gases.
