  • Patent number: 5377792
Abstract: Disclosed is a friction pad of a disc brake for a vehicle. The friction pad has a lining, which contacts the brake disc with friction and is formed of a carbon composite material, and a coating layer formed of glass or a heat resistant resin on the back surface and side surfaces of the lining. The carbon composite layer is preferably a carbon-carbon composite or a glass-impregnated carbon material. Borosilicate glass is suitable as the glass.

  • Patent number: 5259484
Abstract: A reaction force type disk brake in which a bridge of a brake caliper is provided with a window opening through which friction pads can be inserted and withdrawn and the brake caliper is divided at the bridge into two blocks which are integrally interconnected by pairs of first and second connecting bolts provided on both sides of the window opening. The connecting bolts are arranged along an outer peripheral surface of said brake disk, and a relationship L.sub.1 <L.sub.2 is established wherein L.sub.1 represents a distance between both the first connecting bolts and L.sub.2 represents a distance between both the second connecting bolts and also a relationship H.sub.1 <H.sub.2 is established wherein H.sub.1 represents a distance from a line intersecting a radius line of the brake disk at right angles at a center of a total urging force of the piston to the first connecting bolt and H.sub.2 represents a distance from such line to the second connecting bolt.

  • Patent number: 4792021
Abstract: An improved self-compensating device for a drum brake of the type including a first member and a second member which together define a hydraulic chamber in a wheel cylinder, said first and second members being slidably but non-rotatably arranged relative to one another so that brake shoes are actuated by displacement of the members away from one another which is initiated by hydraulic pressure introduced into the hydraulic chamber.

  • Patent number: 4757882
Abstract: A mechanically-operated drum brake device which comprises a pair of brake shoes each coming in contact with an anchor at one end portion on the same side and engaging with a floating type actuator and a brake lever rotatably supported on the actuator at their other end portions, respectively. There is provided structure for holding in place the brake shoes and the actuator relative to a back plate at a predetermined distance therebetween in the axial direction of a brake drum. There is also provided a stop member to control the inward contracting movement of the brake shoes when the brake is released.

  • Patent number: 4586589
Abstract: An automatic braking gap adjustor system for mechanical type drum brakes, including a cam member for expanding brake shoes by turning of a brake arm, a cam collar axially slidingly fitted into the cam member, the cam collar abutting onto the free ends of shoe webs, an adjusting bolt axially and threadedly inserted through the cam member to move the cam collar, an adjusting gear disposed so as to be rotatable in unison with the adjusting bolt, and a stopper lever engaged with the adjusting gear in such a manner that the gear is kept from turning in the actuation direction of the cam member, whereby, when the abrasion of the linings reaches a predetermined value, the adjusting lever is engaged in another place with the adjusting gear for adjustment, and further a support pin extending parallel to the cam member, to which is attached the stopper lever in such a manner that it is movable in the actuation direction of the cam member, and a spring member whereby the stopper lever is biased in the counter-actuation

  • Patent number: 4530424
Abstract: An automatic braking-gap adjuster system for hydraulic brakes having an adjusting nut and bolt combination wherein the nut engages threadedly the bolt, the combination being disposed in the hydraulic chamber defined by a piston slidably inserted through an associated cylinder and a portion of the cylinder facing the piston, and the adjusting bolt abutting at its clutch section against a clutch face of the portion of the cylinder. A spring retainer having its legs fixed to the piston so as to be engageable with the adjusting nut such that the nut is restrained from turning, and a spring arranged in a contracted state between a spring seat of the spring retainer and the adjusting nut for biasing the adjusting nut toward the piston are provided. The spring retainer is mounted in place by inserting its legs through notches formed in the adjusting nut and holding them in openings formed in the piston.

  • Patent number: 4494633
Abstract: An automatic braking-gap adjuster system for a mechanical drum brake which has a pair of brake shoes pivotally mounted at one end on a back plate. A cam member is located between the free ends of the brake shoes. The cam member, actuated through a brake arm, expands the brake shoes to urge them against the brake drum.

  • Patent number: 4480726
Abstract: An arrangement for automatic adjustment of a braking gap in a drum brake of the type in which a pair of brake shoes is expanded (moved away from each other) into engagement with the inside face of a brake drum. A brake lever abuts at its one end upon one brake shoe to cause extension of the shoe. A support shaft is extensible at a right angle with the brake lever and includes a portion tapered in its extending direction. An adjusting lever is loosely inserted over the support shaft and has its one end abutting upon one end face of the brake lever. An adjusting gear for permitting extension of an adjusting member engages with the other pawl-shaped end of the adjusting lever. A compression spring is interposed between the extended head of the support shaft and the adjusting lever. A predetermined load applied on the spring causes the adjusting lever to be biased toward the brake lever and urged against the tapered face of the support shaft.
