Patent number: 9718049Abstract: The present invention is directed to the synthesis of novel delaminated layered zeolite precursor materials prepared by fluoride/chloride anion-promoted exfoliation. The method comprises, for example, using a combination of fluoride and chloride anions at a mild pH in aqueous solution to affect delamination of a layered zeolite precursor. The method can also comprise using a combination of fluoride and chloride anions in a non-aqueous solution comprising an organic solvent. The method may be used in conjunction with either acidification or sonication, or both. The resulting delaminated zeolite precursors are then isolated. Precursors that are then isolated lack amorphous silica content. The UCB-1 product is an example of such a novel oxide material and is obtained in yields in excess of 90% without the need for sonication.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2014Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignees: The Regents of the University of California, Chevron U.S.A. Inc.Inventors: Alexander Katz, Isao Ogino, Stacey Ian Zones

Patent number: 9475700Abstract: In the present invention, a starting material liquid including a carbon compound and a catalyst or a catalyst precursor, and a reaction vessel having a high-temperature zone heated to 900-1,300° C. are prepared. The starting material liquid is introduced into the reaction vessel, and a mixture is generated which comprises a gas including a carbon source, and catalyst microparticles dispersed in the gas. A carrier gas is then introduced in pulses into the reaction vessel, and the mixture is pushed out to the high-temperature zone. The carbon source and catalyst microparticles included in the mixture are then brought into contact with each other in the high-temperature zone, initial fibers are grown, and carbon fibers are subsequently grown in an environment in which the carrier gas is retained.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2013Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignees: ASAHI CARBON CO., LTD., NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CORPORATION HOKKAIDO UNIVERSITYInventors: Shin Mukai, Yusuke Rikima, Riku Furukawa, Isao Ogino, Togo Yamaguchi
