  • Patent number: 4287376
Abstract: A method for aralkylation of benzene or alkylbenzenes which is characterized in that an aromatic olefin having a double bond or double bonds which are conjugated with the benzene ring is added to the benzene or alkylbenzenes in the presence of at least one member of catalyst selected from the group consisting of the compounds represented by the general formula:C.sub.n F.sub.2n+1-m Cl.sub.m SO.sub.3 Hin which the symbol n is an integer from 1 to 5 and m is 0 or 1. Since the selectivity to the aromatic olefin in the reaction is excellent, the mixture of aromatic olefins and aliphatic olefins can be employed as one of the starting material.

  • Patent number: 4254292
Abstract: A method for preparing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with excellent yield and selectivity but without the formation of cyclic dimers and other undesirable by-products. In the method of the present invention, styrene, .alpha.-methylstyrene, .beta.-methylstyrene and/or vinyltoluene is dimerized and/or codimerized to produce unsaturated dimer and/or codimer in the first step reaction and said unsaturated dimer and/or codimer is caused to react with an aromatic hydrocarbon or hydrocarbons in the second step reaction, and both the first and second step reactions are carried out in the presence of a catalyst which is represented by the general formula: RCF.sub.2 SO.sub.3 H, in which the symbol R is Cl, F or C.sub.n F.sub.p CL.sub.2n+1-p, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 3 and p is also an integer from 1 to 2n+1.

  • Patent number: 4208268
Abstract: This invention provides a method of processing thermal cracked by-product oil which comprises reacting a distillate from a thermal cracked by-product oil principally containing components of a boiling range between 75.degree. C. and 198.degree. C. said distillate being one of the distillates from the cracking of petroleum hydrocarbons at a cracking temperature of 700.degree. C. or higher, and containing a ratio of 5-100 molar percent aromatic olefins to non-olefinic aromatic hydrocarbons, in liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst under such conditions that the reaction temperature is 0.degree. C.-200.degree. C., the liquid residence time is 0.1 hour-5 hours and wherein the content of aromatic olefins in the reaction system are 5% by weight or less at the end of the reaction, to yield a processed distillate containing non-condensed di- and tricyclic aromatic compounds which are reaction products of aromatic olefins with other aromatic hydrocarbons but no substantial amount of unsaturated components.

  • Patent number: 4175278
Abstract: The present invention provides novel electric insulating oil compositions and a process for preparing the same. The electric insulating compositions of the invention comprise distillates within a boiling range in terms of normal pressure between 265.degree. C. and 360.degree. C. obtained by processing a hydrocarbon mixture from cracking of petroleum hydrocarbons at a temperature of 700.degree. C. or higher principally composed of components with a boiling range between 75.degree. C. and 198.degree. C., said components mainly containing monocyclic aromatics and comprising aromatic olefins of said boiling range, in liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst under such conditions that the reaction temperature is from 0.degree. C. to 200.degree. C., the liquid residence time is from 0.1 hour to 5 hours and the concentration of aromatic olefins in the reaction system is 10% by weight or below.

  • Patent number: 4155848
Abstract: A process for wet oxidation of a liquid waste effluent using a vertical-type pressure-proof container in which a free space is provided at each of the axial lower and upper ends and the remaining space between the axial ends is divided into at least two spaces, at least one serving as an effluent-descending space and the other as an effluent-ascending space, by furnishing at least one partition, which process comprising introducing a liquid waste effluent and circulating the effluent through the effluent-descending space, lower free space, effluent-ascending space and upper free space while oxidizing the effluent with an oxidizing gas ejected upward into the effluent-ascending space and withdrawing the oxidized effluent and used oxidizing gas through an outlet provided at the top of the container.
