  • Patent number: 7693137
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for creating traditional multi-line appearance telecommunications capabilities in a computer network for communications received from a switched circuit network. The system and method create key system and attendant/attendee relationships between the respective terminal end-points of the computer network. In addition, multiple line appearances may be supported simultaneously at a single terminal end-point.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 2006
Date of Patent: April 6, 2010
Assignees: Verizon Corporate Sevices Group Inc., Level 3 Communications, LLC
Inventors: Steven E. Gardell, Israel B. Zibman, Gregory C. Depp

  • Patent number: 6707797
Abstract: A multi-line telephony system and method deliver multiple concurrent telephone conversations to a customer premise via a single traditional twisted-pair communications connection, and support telephone services via a traditional dial-up connection. Improved packet-based communications are performed using the multi-line telephony system and method with better transmission characteristics, such as transmission speed, over traditional twisted-pair wire connections to provide H.

  • Patent number: 6298062
Abstract: A telecommunications system operating over a packet-based network that enable calls seeking to connect with an unavailable destination to be completed, and for the intended called party to elect the call disposition on either a call-by-call basis, or for all incoming calls. Automatic disposition of incoming calls is performed in the event that the user does not elect such disposition to make use of the interactive interface for call disposition.

  • Patent number: 6128304
Abstract: A method and apparatus are implemented for providing traditional telecommunications service capabilities in a packet based computer network. The system and method of the present invention automatically provide such service capabilities in the event a terminal end-point is unavailable to receive an incoming call, based upon predetermined associations between the terminal end-point and one or more of the available services.

  • Patent number: 6031896
Abstract: A communication system that provides call connections and voice mail service to telephone devices. With this system, a called party has the ability to monitor and control an incoming voice mail message, made by a calling party, which is to be recorded onto a voice mail system. The system includes a switch that connects the incoming calls to the called party and the voice mail system. A voice mail intercept service terminal receives a message to be recorded on the voice mail system and also selectively connects the incoming call to the called party for a two-way communication.

  • Patent number: 4914701
Abstract: In a speech encoder a Fourier transform of the speech is provided. The Fourier transform is equalized by normalizing the spectrum coefficients to a curve which approximates the shape of the spectrum. Both the curve and the equalized spectrum are encoded. Preferably, only a baseband of the normalized spectrum is encoded and that baseband is repeated in the decoder. The spectrum is normalized by scaling different regions (subbands) of the spectrum differently to flatten the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 4748579
Abstract: A fast Fourier transform is performed under control of stretched out microcode. Sequential data inputs are multiplied by coefficients addressed by microcode in a digital multiplier. The resultant products are sequentially stored in three registers. The product stored in the second register is applied as one input to an arithmetic logic unit and the product stored in either the first or the third register is applied as the second input to the logic unit in order to compute the operation pairs (ax.+-. by). The Fourier transform is based on Winograd Fourier transforms modified for only real inputs and to force operations into the form (ax.+-. by). Sample points are initially scaled using the same circuit by performing an OR operation with respect to each sample point and an accumulated OR taken from the output of the ALU. The position of the most significant one bit in the final accumulated OR is indicative of the required scale factor. That scale factor is applied to the multiplier to scale each sample point.
