Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for adaptive rendering of displayable elements such as rows in a table displayed on a web page. A web page is provided that includes instructions for displaying a large number of displayable elements that cannot be displayed at the same in a single viewport. A predetermined number of the elements are initially rendered and a time period for the rendering is measured. Based on the measured time period, a pagination mode or a scrolling mode is selected to display the displayable elements.
