Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, described herein is a system and method for traffic director support in a multitenant application server environment. An exemplary method can provide one or more partitions, wherein each partition provides an administrative and runtime subdivision of the domain, one or more resource groups, wherein each of the one or more resource groups is associated with a partition of the one or more partition, one or more virtual targets, and an instance of a traffic director comprising a configuration. The method can target each of the one or more partitions and the one or more resource groups to a virtual target of the one or more virtual targets. The method can also configure the configuration of the traffic director, wherein the instance of a traffic director provides load balancing among one or more servers of a server pool.
