Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method of: requesting, by a processing system including a processor, a security token from a secure element embedded in a user equipment, wherein the secure element receives parameters through a secure channel from a network security engine residing in a core network and generates the security token based on information and executable instructions stored by the secure element and the parameters received from the network security engine; receiving, by the processing system, a corresponding security token from the network security engine, wherein the network security engine is configured to maintain a copy of the information and the executable instructions for independently generating a corresponding security token; and ensuring, by the processing system, that the security token received from the secure element and the corresponding security token received from the network security engine match, thereby authenticating the user equipment.

The connection can be created to request communications between the user device and a resource that is not located at the premises. The gateway device can determine if a certificate should be issued for the communications and can analyze a profile associated with the user device and a context associated with the communications, wherein the context comprises information identifying a type of data to be communicated via the communications. The gateway device can generate the certificate, the certificate including custom certificate data including communication context data that defines the type of data. The gateway device can enable the communications to allow the user device to communicate with the resource via the gateway device to send and receive the type of data.
