  • Publication number: 20010053288
Abstract: Disclosed is an electronic camera (a digital camera) that includes a taking optical system that forms an image of a subject, a lowpass filter and a CCD area sensor that captures the image formed by the taking optical system. The lowpass filter is mounted on a driving mechanism that moves it in the direction parallel to a light-receptive surface of the CCD. The driving mechanism consists of a pair of filter guides that support the filter, a pair of shafts that guides rectilinear movement of the filter, a cam disc that is rotated by a motor and a cam follower attached on the guide. When the picture is taken, the motor rotates the disc, which reciprocates the filter. Since the movement of the lowpass filter moves the shadow of the dust formed on the CCD area sensor, an influence of the shadow is diffused among a larger number of pixels.

  • Publication number: 20010052273
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method for the direct reduction of iron oxide utilizing a rotary hearth furnace to form a high purity carbon-containing iron metal button. The hearth layer may be a refractory or a vitreous hearth layer of iron oxide, carbon, and silica compounds. Additionally, coating materials may be introduced onto the refractory or vitreous hearth layer before iron oxide ore and carbon materials are added, with the coating materials preventing attack of the molten iron on the hearth layer. The coating materials may include compounds of carbon, iron oxide, silicon oxide, magnesium oxide, and/or aluminum oxide. The coating materials may be placed as a solid or a slurry on the hearth layer and heated, which provides a protective layer onto which the iron oxide ores and carbon materials are placed. The iron oxide is reduced and forms molten globules of high purity iron and residual carbon, which remain separate from the hearth layer.

  • Patent number: 6332054
Abstract: A dispersion compensation apparatus capable of compensating for dispersion while the state of polarization is maintained overall all channels between the input and output ends. Input signal light in alignment with the transmission polarization axis of a polarization beam splitter passes through the multiplexer and a wavelength dispersion-compensating device and is reflected by a Faraday rotator mirror so as to pass through the wavelength dispersion-compensating device again. Owing to the action of the Faraday rotator mirror, the signal light that returns to the wavelength dispersion-compensating device has a polarization that is orthogonal to the polarization that prevailed when the signal light first passed through the device. Thus the polarization beam splitter now operates in the reflective polarization mode with respect to the returning signal light. As a result, 100% of the signal light is output to a Polarization-maintaining optical fiber. Moreover, the polarization is fixed linear polarization.
