Abstract: A paper currency reception/delivery machine having a high degree of general-purpose utility and implemented in a simple structure of a small size at low cost and capable of handling foreign paper currencies of different sizes and other leaflets is imparted selectively with given ones of intelligent functions such as discrimination of denominations, recycling on a denomination-by-denomination basis, replenishment, collection and detailed check and the like. The paper currency reception/delivery machine includes a loop-like paper currency transport path extending in one direction by way of a paper currency checking means, a paper currency reception/delivery port, a temporary custody unit, a delivery-destined paper currency storing unit, a received paper currency storing unit, a recycling-destined paper currency storing unit, a replenishment/collection-destined paper currency storing unit and a rejection-destined paper currency storing unit.

Abstract: A hopper for feeding documents also serves as a stacker for stacking therein documents in a generally upright position. When the fed documents or the once-stacked documents are to be fed to a singulation mechanism, the hopper or stacker is put into a feeding mode, and when the documents are to be stacked or sorted, the hopper or stacker is switched to a stacking mode. Such hoppers or stackers are arranged in a plurality of stages, and when each sorting is to be effected, addresses are read while changing the mode of each hopper or stacker to repeat the sorting, so that the documents are sequenced by a radix sort method.

Abstract: An apparatus for sorting sheets includes a sorting section having boxes, a separating section, and a printing section, the latter two of which are respectively located on both sides of the sorting section. The separating section includes a separating mechanism for downwardly feeding out sheets in a constant gap system, a recognizing mechanism for scanning character information described on each sheet, a bar code scanning unit for scanning bar code information, and a conveying path of the separating section for conveying the sheets fed out of the separating mechanism. The printing section includes a printing mechanism for printing the recognized result as bar code information on the sheets, a verifying mechanism for verifying the printed result, and a conveying path of the printing section for feeding out the sheet on which the bar code is printed, to the sorting section.

Abstract: A bank note handling apparatus of a circulating type utilizes bank notes deposited by customers as payable bank notes. The following devices are provided in the form of a loop in a conveying passage downstream from a paying-in and paying-out device for use in depositing or withdrawing bank notes by customers: bank note stacking devices for stacking circulated bank notes; a first discriminating device for discriminating bank notes; a bank note receiving device for receiving bank notes that are not to be circulated; a second discriminating device for discriminating bank notes; a device for properly arranging the obverse and reverse sides of bank notes; and a temporary receiving device for temporarily receiving bank notes to be deposited or withdrawn. Hence, the conveying passages for the paying-in and paying-out device and the respective stacking devices are shortened, reducing the processing time.

Abstract: In a method of and an apparatus for transferring supplementary paper money in an automatic teller machine that includes a paper-money processing mechanism that has a plurality of transport routes formed among the paper-money that provide a path between a plurality of paper-money containers, a cassette storing a supplementary money supply and a paper-money discriminator part for transporting paper money. A plurality of changeover gates are provided at the forks of the transport routes for changing the destination of paper money, and a control part for controlling the transportation routes and the changeover gates. The method and apparatus optimize the transfer of supplementary paper-money, and a control part for controlling the transport routes and the changeover gates. The method and apparatus optimize the transfer of supplementary paper-money by checking for times in which the paper-money processing mechanism, especially the transport routes, are not in use.

Abstract: This invention relates to a apparatus for separating and feeding sheets such as sheets of paper comprising an accommodation box for accommodating the sheets of paper stacked by their own weight, a pick-up roller provided so that the upper surface thereof projects into the interior of the box to bear the weight of the stacked sheets of paper, a separation arrangement comprising a frictional roller and the feed roller and provided so as to face an ejection port of the accommodation box from which sheets are sent out to the separation arrangement, and a support arrangement disposed on the side opposite to the ejection port supports the end, opposite to the ejection port, of the sheets of paper, and for allowing the lowermost sheet end to be free of the weight of the sheet thereabove when the lowermost sheet is moved to the ejection port side so that frictional resistance of the lowermost sheet is reduced greatly and the pick-up roller can surely pick up and convey the sheet one by one from the lower side of the
