Abstract: A system for monitoring vital signs of a live body includes an inquiring device; and a portable monitoring device. The monitoring device includes an electrical circuit, which, in turn, includes a controller, data storage, and input ports. The electrical circuit is designed to read inputs and store data. The monitoring device further includes a number of sensors which are connected to the electrical circuit, each of the sensors detecting a property of the body. The device also includes an alarm mechanism which is designed to activate when a predetermined set point stored in the data storage is exceeded. The device further includes a mechanism for transferring stored data or received inputs to the inquiring device, further allowing the downloading of data and the setting or changing of one or more set-points of said alarm mechanism.
