    Abstract: A disposable protective device for syringe needles includes a sheath open at one end for receiving a syringe needle, a needle retainer formation within the sheath engageable with the hub of a needle when inserted into the sheath for retaining the needle within the sheath, and a supporting member cooperable with the sheath for stably supporting the sheath in an upstanding position on a flat supporting surface to enable manually inserting a syringe needle into the sheath without manually gripping the sheath.
