  • Patent number: 11079828
Abstract: Embodiments apply user-specific usage patterns to estimate and preserve remaining battery life on a computing device. An amount of battery drain and an execution context are determined and stored for a plurality of recurring time periods. The execution context identifies operations executed by the computing device, signal strength, and other data describing the associated time period. If one of the operations is expected to be executed during a recurrence of at least one of the time periods, the expected execution is adjusted based on execution context and an estimated remaining battery life for the computing device. For example, the computing device may postpone or reschedule the operation for a time period during which the operation is expected to have a greater likelihood of completing successfully. In some embodiments, the battery preservation operations are automatically enabled at a particular threshold.

  • Patent number: 10903665
Abstract: Usage data of a device is maintained over some time period, such as a couple weeks or a couple months. This usage data reflects an amount of energy that is used or stored for different time durations each having a various combinations of different state values of the device, such as a screen state, a power source state, a power mode state, a battery saver state, a processor consumption state, and so forth. This provides a record of a capacity drain rate or capacity charge rate for the battery for each combination of state values. At any given time, the device can determine the current state values of the device. The capacity drain rates or capacity charge rates for previous time durations having the same state values as the current state values are used to determine an estimated capacity drain rate or capacity charge rate for the device.

  • Publication number: 20140101718
Abstract: Providing services within a network of service providers sharing an authentication service and a set of business rules. A central server receives a first request from a first server to provide a first service to a user via a client without forcing the user to present credentials. In response to the received first request, the central server stores data identifying the first service on the client. The central server further receives a second request from a second server to provide a second service to the user via the client after the user presents the credentials to the second service. After receiving the second request and the presented credentials, the central server allows the user access to the second service. In response to allowing the user access to the second service, the central server further allows the user access to the first service as a result of the stored data.

  • Patent number: 7624277
Abstract: Methods for preventing unauthorized scripting. The invention generates a human interactive proof to distinguish a human from a machine by generating a random set of characters and altering each of the characters individually to inhibit computerized character recognition. The invention also includes concatenating the altered characters into a character string to be rendered to a user as a test. The character string may be altered to further inhibit computerized character recognition. Other aspects of the invention are directed to computer-readable media for use with the methods.

  • Patent number: 7606915
Abstract: Methods and system of preventing unauthorized scripting. The invention includes providing one or more tests to a user for distinguishing the user from a machine when the user requests access to the server. By storing information on a correct solution to the test in a block of data and sending the block of data together with the test, the invention provides stateless operation. Moreover, maintaining a database of previously used correct responses prevents replay attacks. The invention also includes providing combinations of alternative tests, such as visually altered textual character strings, audible character strings, and computational puzzles. Other aspects of the invention are directed to computer-readable media for use with the methods and system.
