Abstract: An actuator provides linear motion between two points, and includes a motor, a spindle assembly and a gear assembly that connects the motor to a spindle of the spindle assembly and drives the spindle to rotate about a spindle axis. The gear assembly includes a gear housing that encloses gears and a portion of the spindle. The gear assembly including the gear housing is modular in that it includes features that allow it to be easily adapted by a rearrangement of components, and/or by substitution of certain components, to accommodate the requirements of multiple different applications.

The second connection interface is moveable along the spindle axis relative to the first connection interface when the spindle is driven by the drive motor. The actuator is arranged such that the first and second connection interfaces are disposed on the same side of the gear set.
