Abstract: A multipurpose hitch pin hammer device and an associated method of using the device for coupling the device to a tongue of a towed vehicle with a hitch of a towing vehicle and for hammering objects, wherein the tongue and hitch having vertical apertures therethrough which are vertically aligned when the tongue and hitch are coupled are disclosed. The device comprises a hammer means, a shank, a ring flange, a sleeve, a hairpin, and a tapered nose section. The shank has a generally circular cross section which is smaller in diameter than the vertically aligned apertures for insertion downwardly through the vertically aligned apertures and has a length such that an upper end of the shank is positioned above the apertures and a lower end of the shank extends below the apertures, wherein the upper end of the shank is attached to the hammer means. The ring flange is attached to the shank, so that the ring flange is positioned circumferentially around the shank and located below the hammer means.
