    Abstract: A polymer useful in forming coatings for articles is provided. The polymer is an acrylic copolymer formed as the reaction product of a plurality of monomers which include an alkyl (meth)acrylate, a quaternary amine (meth)acrylate, a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, an N-vinyl lactam, an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and a fluorinated (meth)acrylate. The polymer is formed in the presence of surfactants, preferably by sequential polymerization of two separate monomer mixtures. To form a coating, the polymer is blended with an elastomeric material such as nitrile rubber latex. The resulting coating is useful both as a print coating for substrates used with ink jet printers and as a coating for rubber articles.

    Abstract: An adhesive composition comprising a mixture of water based polymer in latex form and a material generally referred to as a thickening agent is disclosed for removably adhering a product to a substrate, for example a carpet with an attached backing to a flooring substrate. The adhesive may be applied as a layer to the carpet backing, dried and subsequently activated with water to adhere the carpet to the floor. After drying, the adhesive layer may be reactivated with water to permit the carpet to be removed from the floor. The adhesive layer when dried on the surface of a latex foam backed carpet provides a non-tacky surface which additionally increases the abrasion resistance of the latex foam backing thereby reducing damage to the backing during normal storage and handling.

    Abstract: An adhesive composition having improved properties for pressure sensitive adhesive applications has been developed comprising a latex of a polymer formed by polymerizing 40-10 percent vinyl or vinylidene monoaromatic monomer, 45-70 percent C.sub.4-6 cojugated diene, 1-5 percent unsaturated acid, and 5-30 percent C.sub.1-8 alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid. The adhesive preferably also contains a tackifier resin. The adhesive is useful on a number of applications including the manufacture of labels and tapes.
