    Abstract: A flat mouse for a portable computer comprises an upper flat plate, sliding over a lower fixed tracking device. The flat plate contains the buttons of the mouse. The fixed tracking device detects the movement of the flat plate. In a preferred embodiment the mouse is integrated within the base of a portable computer in the palm-rest area. In another embodiment the mouse is detachable and can be plugged to any computer and put on any surface without a mouse pad.
