  • Patent number: 7359078
Abstract: A multifunction device includes a multifunction controller, a first interface for receiving input data from a document source and a second interface for outputting processed input data to at least one printer, and a third interface for coupling to a global data communications network for receiving current document data, as well as up to date recipient contact information therefrom. A graphical user interface is provided to control the operation of the multifunction device, including controlling access to and searching of remote databases coupled to the global data communications network. The remote databases can include, by example, a database of forms, a security database, and a directory database. The graphical user interface can control the operation of the multifunction device for accessing and searching a database containing the recipient contact information for sending at least one of a facsimile or an e-mail that contains processed input data.

  • Publication number: 20060150089
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for editing a region of a document intersecting multiple content component types in a single operation. The apparatus includes an input module, a function module, an identification module, a document editing module, and an output module. The input module receives a description of a region of a document. The region intersects a plurality of content component types. The function module obtains a function to be applied to the region. The identification module identifies a set of content components intersecting the region. The document editing module processes intersecting portions of the content components using the function. The output module updates the document with processed intersecting portions of the content components. The apparatus may additionally include a format module that determines an acceptable content component format for the function and a conversion module that converts the intersecting portions of the content components to the acceptable format.

  • Patent number: 6980312
Abstract: A multifunction device includes a multifunction controller, a first interface for receiving input data from a document data source and a second interface for outputting processed input document data to a printer, and a touch screen that implements a graphical user interface for controlling the operation of the device. The device includes control over setting operational parameters for the document data source and the printer, and selecting a mode of operation of the multifunction device. Another interface is provided for coupling to a facsimile device for outputting processed document data to the facsimile device under control of the graphical user interface, while a further interface is provided for coupling to an e-mail port for outputting processed document data to the e-mail port, also under control of the graphical user interface. Users are able to search and access databases through a global data communications network.

  • Publication number: 20050179961
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus, system, and method for application integration and scriptability. The apparatus may comprise a multifunction device configured with a user interface module that is modifiable, and an engine module that is scriptable. The scriptable engine module may be configured to adapt to multiple applications and subsequently provide an appropriate user interface with accompanying input and output data fields. In one embodiment, the apparatus may be configured with self-contained application interfaces. The application interfaces may be configured to receive document data from a scanner, or alternatively, the application interface may be configured to output document data as an e-mail or fax. The system may include a network, the multifunction device and a plurality of optional services such as printers, e-mail servers, libraries, and databases.
