Abstract: Systems and methods for redacting certain content (e.g., content representing private, privileged, confidential, or otherwise sensitive information) from electronic documents. An example method comprises: identifying, by a computing device, two or more layers in an electronic document; processing each of the identified layers to produce a layer text representing one or more objects comprised by the layer; combining the produced layer texts to produce a combined text of the electronic document; and identifying, within the combined text of the electronic document, a target character string corresponding, in view of a specified search function, to a specified character string.

Abstract: For lossless conversion of a PDF document to searchable PDF document, the PDF document is received. The PDF document has a potential first text layer. An evaluation of quality of the first text layer is performed. The first text layer is determined to be nonexistent or unacceptable. A text recognition of the document is performed to generate a second text layer. The second text layer is made to be used for searching or copying.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer-readable mediums for processing an electronic document. An electronic document is received, where the electronic document comprises an image that contains visually represents text, and where the electronic document lacks text data corresponding to the visually represented text of the image. The image that contains the visually represented text is automatically recognized, where the automatic recognition occurs in a background mode such that display of the electronic document to a user is unaffected. A text layer comprising recognized data is generated, where the recognized data is based on the automatic recognition of the image that contains visually represented text. The text layer is inserted behind the image that contains visual represented text such that it is hidden from the user when the electronic document is displayed, where the hidden text layer is configured to allow the user to perform a user operation on text corresponding to the recognized data.
