  • Patent number: 4258862
Abstract: A device for dispensing liquids such as paint, lacquer, glue and the like containing solvents which evaporate in air at room temperature, includes an outer rigid shell forming an enclosure for an inner flexible bag or container. The bag has an outlet orifice coincident with an outlet opening provided in the bottom wall of the outer shell, and an air inlet communicates with the interior of only the enclosure for establishing an atmospheric pressure therewithin so as to permit the dispensing liquid to flow outwardly of the outlet opening. The outlet may be closed by a shut-off valve so as to create a sub-atmospheric pressure level within the enclosure to thereby interrupt the liquid flow from the device. Otherwise, the air inlet may be closed when its outer end becomes submerged in a quantity of water contained within a receptacle and divided by a flexible diaphragm from the dispensed liquid.

  • Patent number: 4172689
Abstract: A device for deriving power from the energy of water waves, such as ocean waves, includes a buoyant support base, such as a raft, adapted for floating in open waters and having a keel extending from its bottom surface for stabilizing same in a horizontal position. A plurality of open funnels are mounted on the top surface of the base for collecting a wave and directing it into a manifold mounted at the small ends of the funnels for operating a turbine generator in communication with the manifold. The bottom walls of the funnels extend outwardly of their larger ends so as to define artificial shoals lying beneath the bottom surface of the raft and thus beneath the surface of the water. The shoals cause the waves to break into the funnels, the broken waves tumbling along the funnels and increasing in speed upon movement toward the smaller ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4145882
Abstract: A device for deriving power from the energy of moving water waves includes a bag of flexible, impervious and inelastic material filled with a liquid to at least half but less than full capacity thereof and being adapted for submergence below the surface of a body of water parallel to the principle direction of movement of the waves. A passageway element having open opposite ends is in communication with the interior of the bag and forms together therewith a closed circuit flow as the liquid is channeled between opposite ends of the bag in a direction opposite the principle direction of movement of the waves. An electric power generator with turbine blades thereon is disposed between opposite ends of the passageway element.

  • Patent number: 4065117
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for addressing and stacking individual pieces of printed matter for mailing, especially magazine copies, booklets and other bindery articles. The addressing of the mailing pieces is accomplished by applying to each mailing piece individual address identification data, such as labels from a computer-printed address list. After addressing of the mailing pieces has been accomplished, the labelled or identified pieces are conveyed into one or more stacking machines, the front page and the back of each magazine being oriented in the same direction. Each of the stacking machines is equipped with a first selector for changing the orientation of the mailing pieces so as to stack the mailing pieces in batches comprising a selected number of pieces, the copies of each batch having their backs oriented the same way, but oppositely of the backs of the pieces in the underlying batch.
