  • Patent number: 8974111
Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining and mixing together a plurality of liquids to form a blend. The invention discloses reservoir supplied intermittently operated servo driven pumps, and optionally discrete liquid flow meters, and precise, encoded, fast-acting flow shut-off devices to create and define repeated time synchronized ratio defined doses of the liquids. One or more liquids, designated secondary streams, are synchronously dosed into a secondary streams injection assembly which is located generally at the suction port of the primary liquid stream dosing pump. The primary stream pump, during its synchronized intermittent operation, withdraws ratio defined primary stream and secondary stream liquids from the injection assembly. The primary stream pump serves also to propel the combined liquids ratio dosed streams into and through mixing structure on the discharge of the primary stream pump.

  • Patent number: 6808374
Abstract: A sanitary pump with gear shaft bearing blocks in opposed cylindrical portions of a pump body bore, blocks constituting hand removable structural pump ends. Gear shaft bearings extending completely through blocks for easy cleaning, sealed by O-rings and clamp plates. Oval gear cavity bore between cylindrical portions of body bore extends only length of largest of interchangeable gears. Seals at end of gear cavity eliminate entrapment zones. Minimal intrusion of bearing blocks into gear cavity allows large operating temperature range. Shaft seals are contained in a hand removable cartridge. Complete pump disassembly by one manually operated clamp. Gear shaft diameters differ assuring correct assembly. Mount receives pump, tie rods sealing pump and securing to mount. Mount allows pump removal without changing pump-drive alignment. Pin and groove engagement of pump to mount allows 90° interval pump ports orientation. Pump displacement is altered with interchangeable gears and drive end bearing blocks.

  • Publication number: 20020159906
Abstract: A sanitary design gear pump in which two gear shaft bearing blocks constitute hand removable structural end bodies of the pump. The gear shaft bearing journals extend completely through the blocks for easy cleaning and are sealed by O-rings retained by simple clamp plates. Gear cavity bore extends only the length of the largest gears, among interchangeable gear sizes. Bearing block to gear cavity seals are located at the ends of the gear bore to eliminate entrapment zones, minimal intrusion of the bearing blocks into the gear cavity allowing a large pump operating temperature range. Shaft seals of many different types can be contained in a simple hand removable cartridge. Complete pump disassembly is by one manually operated tee-handled clamp fastener. The drive and driven gear shafts are of different diameters to aid and assure correct assembly. The assembled pump slides into a pump mount with integral tie rods sealing the pump and securing it to the mount.

  • Patent number: 6213739
Abstract: A liquid pumping apparatus for pumping liquids, more specifically a linear peristaltic pump apparatus. The apparatus consists of a high durometer compressible elastomeric liquid flow tube (12), an infeed valve assembly (26), an outfeed valve assembly (38), an extensible and retractable actuator anvil (34) having a round surface which engages the flow tube (12) at all times, an opposed anvil (24.1) having a round surface in engagement with the flow tube at all times, the flow tube being held between the anvils (34, 24.1) in a slightly compressed state when the anvil (34) is retracted, and a control assembly (100) for causing the movable anvil to be sequentially extended and retracted to cause flow within the flow tube (12) from the infeed valve assembly (26) to the outfeed valve assembly (38). With this apparatus the lumen of the flow tube (12) to the sides of the anvils is not completely reduced to zero volume during displacement compression whereby gas embolisms do not erupt or explode when discharged.

  • Patent number: 6189736
Abstract: A condiment dispensing apparatus for dispensing condiments from a bag-in-box type container (108). There is a high durometer compressible elastomeric liquid flow tube (14), an infeed and outfeed thereto and therefrom, and a movable anvil (26) with a round surface to compress the tube. There is an opposed stationary anvil (28) which holds the tube for compression by the movable anvil. The tube is held between the anvils (26, 28) in a slightly compressed state even when the anvil is retracted. There is a control assembly (FIG. 15) that causes extension and retraction of the movable anvil to cause flow through the tube, and subsequent delivery of condiment to a dispensing fixture (110).

  • Patent number: 6186193
Abstract: The present invention consists of a method and apparatus providing for the continuous stream blending, preferably on a mass ratio basis, of two or more liquids. Each individual liquid stream is synchronously dosed in precise mass ratio to a common mixing point. The flow of each stream is on-off or digital. Repeated mass ratio doses of defined and matching flow interval, referred to as synchronous digital flow, interspersed with a defined interval of no flow, constitutes digital flow at a net rate sufficient to meet or exceed some required take-away of the blended liquids. In one preferred embodiment, each dose stream flow is produced and measured by a four element apparatus preferably consisting of a servo motor and controller, a precision positive displacement pump, a Coriolis mass meter and a precision flow stream shut-off device. The servo motor and controller establish and control a periodic and intermittent flow rate necessary to displace a defined mass dose in a precisely defined flow interval.

  • Patent number: 5878796
Abstract: A liquid filling apparatus and a method of filling a plurality of containers C arranged in equal numbers in two or more parallel rows, all containers in all rows being first simultaneously and completely filled with a liquid during a fill time period, and then simultaneously released and replaced with empty containers during an index time period, each container row being positioned such that it is at least entirely offset or staggered from the position of the containers in the next adjacent and all other parallel rows, thus allowing simultaneous parallel filling followed by simultaneous parallel indexing of all containers in all rows without the possibility of one container group in any given row intersecting or colliding with any other container group in any other row following release from the filling positions.

A heater (138) is located outside of the enclosure and is connected to the enclosure through an insulated air duct (130) so that forced hot air may be used for heating the enclosure. A heat sensor (158) is provided within the enclosure for controlling the flow of air into the enclosure and also for regulating the output of the heater. The enclosure is provided with two aligned doors (96, 98), and when these doors are opened a blow down cycle is initiated.

  • Patent number: 5168905
Abstract: An in-line liquid filling machine and method of filling containers. In certain embodiments a a single row of containers is indexed past a plurality of filling nozzles which are in turn interconnected with a manifold which receives a single fill of material from a dosing structure. If all nozzles are dispensing simultanteously a total fill of material is received at one time, the nozzles distributing aliquot parts of the total fill to the row, with each container sequentially passing under each filling nozzle. If only alternate groups of nozzles are to be filling at any one time, the fill delivered by the dosing structure is proportionate to the total fill as the nozzles dispensing the fill are proportionate to the total number of nozzles. The dosing structure typically includes a single pump. Filling-time and indexing-time cycles typically are performed sequentially, but in certain embodiments they may be performed simultaneously.
