  • Publication number: 20080014823
Abstract: A display device based on e.g. oil layer break up or oil layer displacement having at least two different states, having a wall (13) height which is insignificant compared to the pixel width and also to the typical curvature of the oil interface at the tip of the dosing needle (15), the pixels are dosed without inserting the needle into the pixels. As the dosing needle no longer has to enter the pixel, pixels can be dosed with oil (5) from a relatively large injection needle.

  • Publication number: 20070193461
Abstract: During the manufacture of PoIyLED displays, printed elements of the LEDs are obtained by first printing bottom element layers (23a) and subsequently printing top element layers, according to a predetermined pattern. When the dimensions of a PoIyLED display are relatively large, the printing process of each layer (23a) takes place in several strokes. In order to prevent a situation in which unacceptable differences in the height distribution of the obtained elements exist, the layers (23a) of elements which are located at a circumference of a group of elements associated with one printing stroke are printed in two steps. During a first printing stroke, a first portion of the element layers (23a) is printed, whereas during a subsequent printing stroke, the remaining portion of the element layers (23a) is printed. Consequently, the printing strokes are performed in an overlapping manner.

  • Publication number: 20070127108
Abstract: An optical switch, e.g. a display device based on layer break up or layer displcement having at least two different states, in which one of the fluids (5) e.g oil in a first state adjoins at least a first support plate (3) and in the second state the other fluid (6) at least partly adjoins the first support plate, in which picture elements are separated by areas (13) having a hydrophilic surface.

  • Publication number: 20050175777
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a patterned layer (4) on a substrate comprises providing a substrate surface (2) with a dam structure (6) partitioning the substrate surface into a plurality of compartments for containing fluid from which regions of the patterned layer are obtainable, filling, using a west deposition method, compartments with volumes of fluid and then obtaining from the volumes of fluid regions of the patterned layer. In order to obtain a patterned layer which has a relatively large thickness and a good uniformity in thickness, the filling and obtaining is done in several passes, each pass comprising filling a selection of compartments with fluid having a volume larger than the volume of the compartment and obtaining the corresponding regions therefrom, taking care in no selection two compartments which are nearest-neighbor of each other are included.

  • Publication number: 20050122040
Abstract: An electroluminescent device (1) has a relief pattern (17) comprising overhanging sections (13) for patterning an electrode layer (11) of the device (1). In order to prevent the take up and transport of fluid, from which a functional layer (7, 9) is obtainable, along the capillary channels (23) formed by the overhanging sections (13), the relief pattern (17) comprises accompanying sections (15) which are positioned at distance of the overhanging sections (13) and between the sections (13) and the electroluminescent areas (21) comprising the functional layers (7,9). A method of manufacturing the EL device (1) comprises depositing the functional layer or layers (7, 9) by means of a wet deposition method such as inkjet printing.
