  • Patent number: 5953817
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a monolithic catalyst converter includes the steps of fitting a monolithic catalyst into a tube-shaped workpiece having opposite opening ends through one of the opposite opening ends, and drawing the tube-shaped workpiece at the opposite opening ends into a funnel shape by means of spinning. Thus, a monolithic catalyst converter is completed without carrying out welding. Hence, the monolithic catalyst converter can be manufactured with a high material yield (or a low scrap rate), at a reduced cost and under a good working environment, because it can be manufactured without the conventional troublesome welding operation and/or a leak-test inspection.

  • Patent number: 5845526
Abstract: A method for continuously producing pipes, each having a polygon-shaped closed cross-section taken perpendicularly to the feeding direction of a strip of metal, which are free from brittleness caused by metal fatigue, and have good precision. A feed-bending method of successively feeding a strip of metal (work) W between a main die body, mandrel, punch and correction punches by predetermined feed lengths, and pressing the work W with these members synchroously with feeding is performed. The work W is gradually bent along designed ridgelines L1 through L2 extending in the feeding direction and defining ridgelines L5 through L8 of a product pipe W1, from the ridgelines L1 and L2 close to widthwise ends e1 and e2 to the ridgelines L3 and L4 in the widthwise center thereof in the course between the vicinity of an inlet and the vicinity of a middle of a device, and then, a resulting rough pipe W0 is corrected from the inside and outside thereof in the vicinity of an outlet of the device.

  • Patent number: 4710608
Abstract: A welding fixture for holding a plurality of long component members that are welded along their lengths into an elongate product, having at least three stationary clamps disposed in spaced-apart relation with each other along the long component members, and at least three movable clamps disposed opposite to the stationary clamps, respectively, and cooperating the stationary clamps to clamp the component members in opposite clamping directions toward each other substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the component members. The fixture includes a pivot base disposed pivotally in a plane parallel to the clamping directions, and supporting at least one of the stationary clamps. The pivot base is supported by a supporting device pivotally about a pivot axis which is located on the component members clamped by the movable and stationary clamps.

  • Patent number: 4471819
Abstract: A method for making a formed wire in a predetermined shape by merely bending a clamped wire from its opposite ends toward its center portion, unclamping the bent wire to allow release of any bending-induced tortional stresses, and rotating the bent, unclamped wire around the unbent wire axis without twisting; and an apparatus for carrying out the method, which comprises a wire support, wire a selectively operable clamp, a rotating pin wire bender for bending the clamped wire from the opposite ends to the center portion, and a chuck for locating, holding, and rotating the bent, unclamped wire around the unbent wire axis.

  • Patent number: 4327569
Abstract: A tube forming mill, which consists of rolling mechanisms is mounted on movable trucks set or positioned on rails which are laid directionally crossing the material line flow at right angles thereto. The operation of the tube forming mill is as follows: While the rolling process is performed by one rolling mechanism, other rolling mechanism, which is to be used in the following process, is assembled onto the truck located at a position other than the unit rails which are on the material feeding line. After the last coil is passed through the rolling mechanism, the connector of the driving mechanism, which is disposed under the rails, is lowered to cut off the drive and the unit rails, together with the frame, are lifted by the elevating mechanism away from a fixing mechanism until the unit rails come up to the floor level.
