  • Publication number: 20230104521
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including an additional lens (24) made from an amorphous viscoelastic material and having an optical design. A curvature of the additional lens (24) is changed such as to conform with a curvature of abase eyeglasses lens (22), without causing a loss of the optical design of the additional lens (24), by heating the additional lens (24) to a temperature at which a Tan Delta of the amorphous viscoelastic material is between 0.2 and 0.8, and shaping the additional lens (24). Subsequently, the additional lens (24) is adhered to the base eyeglasses lens (22). The optical design of the additional lens (24) is such that, upon being adhered to the base eyeglasses lens (22), the adhered base eyeglasses lens (22) and the additional lens (24) provide a combined lens (20) having a desired optical prescription. Other applications are also described.

  • Publication number: 20230077339
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including adhering a first lens to a second lens such as to form a combined lens having a given optical design, by placing the first lens and the second lens in respective first and second pressure chambers with an adhesive layer disposed between the first lens and the second lens, bringing a convex surface of the first lens into contact with the adhesive layer, and bringing a concave surface of the second lens into contact with the adhesive layer. Other applications are also described.

  • Publication number: 20210139689
Abstract: Methods for forming high shrink wrap label sleeves directly from a roll are disclosed herein. A seaming agent is applied to the label, where the trailing edge will overlap the leading edge to form a seam. The seaming agent is then exposed to radiation to cure the seaming agent and form a sleeve. The label comprises a film with at least one external layer that has a Hildebrand solubility parameter, and the seaming agent includes a component having a Hildebrand solubility parameter that is within 2.2 MPa1/2 or within 4.4 calories1/2·cm?3/2 of the Hildebrand solubility parameter of the external layer of the film. The seaming agent also has a viscosity of at least 1 centipoise and less than 1000 centipoise when measured at any temperature between ambient temperature and 60° C.

  • Publication number: 20210087432
Abstract: Methods for applying high shrink wrap labels to a shaped article are disclosed. The leading edge of the label is bonded to the article. A seaming agent is applied, and the label is wrapped around the article. The seaming agent is then exposed to radiation to cure the seaming agent, and the label is then exposed to heat to cause heat-shrinking. The label is made of a film with at least one external layer that has a Hildebrand solubility parameter. The seaming agent includes a component having a Hildebrand solubility parameter that is within 2.2 MPa1/2 or within 4.4 calories1/2·cm?3/2 of the Hildebrand solubility parameter of the external layer of the film. The seaming agent also has a viscosity of at least 1 centipoise and less than 1000 centipoise when measured at any temperature between ambient temperature and 60° C. Articles including such affixed high shrink wrap labels are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10753049
Abstract: Certain pavement systems and methods for paving are suitable for locations containing a generally weak subgrade with a California Bearing Ratio of four (4) or lower. The pavement system includes a first geogrid layer placed directly on the subgrade; a first granular layer upon the first geogrid layer, the first granular layer having a thickness of from 0.5 times to 20 times the aperture distance of the geogrid layer; a first geocell layer upon the first granular layer comprising a geocell and an infill material; and a capping layer over the geocell layer. A second geocell/geogrid layer can be placed beneath the capping layer, if desired. An optional surface layer may be applied upon the capping layer if desired. The resulting pavement system provides long-term support for pavements applied over the pavement system.

  • Publication number: 20200087551
Abstract: Broadly described herein are methods for using the same pumping and metering system to apply two different seaming agents consecutively without cleaning the system between the two seaming agents. This is useful when it is desired to produce high shrink wrap labels and low-shrink labels on the same production line. The two seaming agents are soluble in each other at loadings (w/w) of 1:10 to 10:1. Two sets of seaming agents are also disclosed, (a) a polar low-shrink seaming agent and a polar high-shrink seaming agent; and (b) a non-polar low-shrink seaming agent and a non-polar high-shrink seaming agent.
