    Abstract: Class-D amplifier circuits provide operation with low-distortion zero crossings outside of a unipolar power supply voltage range. The amplifiers include a first H-bridge driver circuit and a second H-bridge driver circuit. The class-D amplifier circuits also include a control circuit having an input for receiving an input signal to be reproduced by the class-D amplifier circuit. The control circuit has outputs coupled to inputs of the first and second H-bridge drivers, and includes one or more modulators. The control circuit selects between actively operating a selected one of the driver circuits or both, according to the signal to be reproduced, while setting an unselected driver circuit to turn either a high-side switch or a low-side switch of the unselected one of the first driver circuit or the second driver circuit fully on for at least some cycles of the one or more modulators.

    Abstract: Permanent magnet rotors for electric motors, particularly electric motors for use in compressors, improve the electromagnetic efficiency of the motor. The rotors can include retention of surface permanent magnets using one or more of retaining features on the motor and/or pole spacers interfacing with corresponding features on a rotor core, the use of a monolithic magnet in the rotor, and/or use of a carbon fiber sleeve. The rotor can include an eddy current shield, disposed on the rotor core, on a surface of the rotor, or located within a sleeve surrounding the rotor. The rotor can be sized such that an air-gap between the rotor and a stator of a motor using the rotor is a predetermined amount that reduces electromagnetic losses such as eddy current losses.

    Abstract: In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, a system includes a generator control relay configured to electrically connect a generator and an exciter switch drive to drive an exciter switch. A first processor is operatively connected to control a state of the generator control relay to control the electrical connection between a generator and the exciter switch drive. The system includes an exciter drive configured to generate excitation current for field windings of a generator system based on a state of the exciter switch. A second processor is operatively connected to control the exciter drive and to communicate with the first processor during a fault event to place the generator control relay in an open state, disconnecting the generator from the exciter switch drive to prevent generation of excitation current. In certain embodiments, the first processor can include a microcontroller and the second processor can include a voltage regulation processor.
