The sizing agent substantially comprises a hydroxyalkylated polysaccharide from the seed of Cassia occidentalis. The polysaccharide has a viscosity of from 40 to 10,000 mPas (10% aqueous solution, 80.degree. C., Brookfield RVT) and a substitution degree of from 0.05 to 1.0.
