  • Patent number: 3980178
Abstract: A protective cover for phonograph records includes a pair of recessed, inwardly opening panels preferably composed of a plastic material hinged together along one edge, the panels forming when closed together a common recess therebetween which is sized to receive a phonograph record. A circular seating area is formed centrally of the recessed portion to prevent sliding movement of the record within the cover and a complementary rib and groove are formed just outwardly of the recessed portion to interengage with one another and to releasably lock the panels against misalignment. In one form of the invention, intersecting reinforcement ribs together with a foam liner may be employed to cover the reinforcement ribs and to cooperate with the rib members to retain the phonograph record within the cover in such a way that the recorded portion of the record is free from contact with the cover.
