  • Publication number: 20100153955
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing distributed execution of programs. In at least some situations, the techniques include decomposing or otherwise separating the execution of a program into multiple distinct execution jobs that may each be executed on a distinct computing node, such as in a parallel manner with each execution job using a distinct subset of input data for the program. In addition, the techniques may include temporarily terminating and later resuming execution of at least some execution jobs, such as by persistently storing an intermediate state of the partial execution of an execution job, and later retrieving and using the stored intermediate state to resume execution of the execution job from the intermediate state. Furthermore, the techniques may be used in conjunction with a distributed program execution service that executes multiple programs on behalf of multiple customers or other users of the service.

  • Publication number: 20100043714
Abstract: A feeder assembly is used in a feed distribution system having a feed supply conduit. The feeder assembly includes a pan member, which is preferably elongated in configuration, in a shape of two intersecting circles. The feeder assembly also includes at least one fill port for receiving feed from the feed supply conduit and for providing feed onto a base portion of the pan member. The at least one fill port is defined through an outer grill member which is operatively associated with the pan member. Like the pan member, the outer grill member has a rim member which is preferably elongated in configuration, in a shape of two intersecting circles. The outer grill member defines a plurality of apertures therethrough through which birds can eat the feed presented on the base portion of the pan member.

  • Publication number: 20090320763
Abstract: A method of managing feed flow within a feeder from a feed supply conduit to a pan of said feeder is provided. The method includes the step of providing a feeder including a pan and a drop tube assembly where the assembly is configured to receive feed from the conduit, and where the assembly defines a feed gate through an outer wall thereof such that feed received from the conduit flows through the feed gate and into the pan. The method further includes the step of regulating a position of the feed gate in the outer wall of the assembly such that feed flow into the pan can be substantially controlled, such that the feed flow can be substantially directed into selected areas and at selected levels within the pan, and/or such that the position of the feed gate is variable relative to a distal end of the assembly.

The feeder assembly includes first and second fill ports for receiving feed from the feed supply conduit and for providing feed onto a base portion of the pan member. Each fill port provides feed to a separate portion of the base portion of the elongated pan member. The fill ports are defined through an outer grill member having an elongated rim member which is operatively associated with the pan member. First and second drop tube members are associated with the first and second fill ports to direct (feed flowing through the fill ports through first and second lower feed gates and onto the pan member. The drop tube members may have brood gates provided therethrough for providing a raised level of feed in the pan member.

  • Patent number: 7584716
Abstract: A feeder assembly includes a pan and an outer grill which is operatively associated with the pan. The outer grill defines a plurality of apertures therethrough through which birds can eat the feed presented on the pan. First and second inner grills can be rotated to partially mask the apertures through the outer grill in order to effectively change the width of the apertures. The inner grills are connected to one another by interlocking fingers such that rotation of one of the inner grills causes rotation of the other inner grill in the opposite direction. The inner grills are rotated by a dial member which is secured to the outer grill and which, upon rotation thereof between predetermined positions, causes rotation of the one inner grill, which in turn causes rotation of the other inner grill in the opposite direction.

  • Publication number: 20090182710
Abstract: Embodiments are provided to calculate and provide information based in part on a defined expression. In an embodiment, a database system can be configured to include a number of calculated columns as part of a database table structure. The database system can be configured to present a calculated result based in part on a determined result type. In one embodiment, a database system can be configured to enable calculated columns to be defined on a table of a database, wherein a component can be used to evaluate an expression associated with a column calculation to determine a proper result type. The proper result type can be stored and used when presenting a result of the calculation. Other embodiments are available.

  • Publication number: 20090167970
Abstract: A device for controlling the polarization state of transmitted light comprises first and second cell walls enclosing a layer of a chiral liquid crystal material. The material has a uniformly orientated helical axis in the absence of an applied field, and electrodes for applying an electric field substantially normal to the helical axis. An applied electric field flexoelectrically couples to the molecules, causing distortion of the helical structure and hence changes the bulk birefringence of the cell.

  • Publication number: 20090091228
Abstract: A pedestal system includes a cabinet having a bottom wall, a top wall, a pair of sidewalls, and a rear wall that cooperate to define a forwardly-opening aperture that slidably receives a plurality of drawer assemblies therein. The pedestal system further includes interchangeable face plates for covering the drawer assemblies, an attachment system for attaching a drawer lock/interlock assembly that locks the drawer assemblies in a closed position and prevents multiple drawer assemblies from being simultaneously opened, and a drawer divider for segmenting an interior space of each drawer assembly. The drawer lock/interlock system includes a cam assembly that allows a constant force to be applied to each drawer assembly while opening each drawer and activating the lock/interlock assembly. The pedestal system further includes an attachment system for attaching the pedestal system to a free-standing partition system.

  • Publication number: 20090041065
Abstract: A tuneable laser device comprises first and second cell walls enclosing a layer of a liquid crystal material having a helical axis substantially normal to the inner surfaces of the cell walls in the absence of an applied field. The liquid crystal contains a fluorescent, phosphorescent, luminescent or rare-earth dye. The device includes electrodes for applying a transverse electric field substantially normal to the helical axis. The invention also provides a method of electrically adjusting the peak wavelength of a photonic band edge laser comprising a chiral nematic liquid crystal material having a helical axis and a fluorescent, phosphorescent, luminescent or rare-earth dye therein and optically pumped by a suitable light source. The method comprises applying an electric field substantially perpendicular to the helical axis so as to deform the helix by means of the flexoelectric effect.
