  • Patent number: 5181636
Abstract: A fluid actuated dispensing device having a valve assembly and an actuating piston provides incremental movement of a drive piston within a tube holder. The valve assembly includes a trigger piston and a valve ball biased into engagement with a valve seat. A trigger is adapted to engage the trigger piston and urge the valve ball away from its seat to allow fluid to enter an actuating chamber. The increase in fluid pressure within the chamber drives an actuating piston from an initial position to an extended position in the chamber. The actuating piston is adapted to drive a washer off-center against a push rod during the stroke of the actuating piston. The washer cocks and grabs the push rod and urges the rod forwardly within the tube holder. A drive piston connected to the push rod is thereby driven forward within the tube holder for the full stroke of the actuating piston.

  • Patent number: 4925061
Abstract: A liquefied gas operated caulk dispensing gun with a housing sub-assembly having an elongate tubular housing defining a chamber for accommodating a tube of caulk, an open dispensing end and an opposite valved closed end portion. A material dispensing sub-assembly is also provided removably connected to the dispensing end of the housing sub-assembly to form a dispensing assembly. The dispensing sub-assembly includes a nozzle, a caulk flow passage communicating with the chamber housing, wherein the flow passage is sized to accommodate a caulking tube outlet. The material sub-assembly also includes a valve controlled passage for selective communication between an inlet portion of the flow passage and the nozzle, and a flow control valve movable between open and closed positions to control such selective communication. A seal mechanism is positioned in the dispensing assembly to effect a seal between the flow passage and a charge receiving portion of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4790056
Abstract: A universal retaining ring tool that is shiftable between internal and external modes of operation. The tool includes a pair of pivotally connected handles, a pair of jaw members selectively coupled to the handles by a latching arrangement including two transversely slidable latch members. In one position of the latch members one handle member is coupled to one jaw member and the other handle is coupled to the other jaw member. When the latch members are switched, the one handle is coupled to the other jaw member and the other handle is coupled to the one jaw member. Removable tips are secured to each jaw member by an associated clamping plate that includes a corner that diverges from the overall plane of the clamping plate towards the associated jaw member. The fastener for securing the clamping plate is critically so that a positive clamping force is exerted on the tip in a region where it enters the jaw.

  • Patent number: 4674184
Abstract: A cutting tool for plastic tubes or the like including a pair of pivotally connected handle members. One member is defined by a pair of sidewalls interconnected by spaced web portions, an integrally formed jaw for supporting a tube to be cut, pivot structure for pivotally supporting a cutting blade and a slot through which the cutting blade extends. The second handle member carries a ratchet plate having a aperture defining a plurality of ratchet teeth. The ratchet plate is secured to the second handle member by the co-engagement between a pivot pin and an aperture formed in the ratchet plate and a mounting edge that abutably engages an abutment wall formed by the second handle member. The cutting blade is mounted to the first member by a pivot assembly which is easily removed to release the blade.

  • Patent number: 4640117
Abstract: A hand operated crimping tool comprising a crimping head 10 and a pair of operating handles 12 for actuating said crimping head. At least one of said handles includes a force sensing arrangement including detent mechanism for maintaining handle portions 80, 88 in an unloaded position until a predetermined crimping force is applied by the crimping head whereupon the detent mechanism releases to allow slight, relative pivotal motion between the handle portions. The detent arrangement includes a tapered extension post 90 defining a recess 100 and a grip 80 pivotally connected to the post. The grip slidably mounts a spring biased slider 98 which defines a recess, confrontingly aligned with the recess in the tapered post when the grip and extension are in an unloaded position. A detent ball 94 is captured between the confronting recesses. The force exerted by the slider on the detent ball resists pivotal movement between the grip and the extension.

  • Patent number: 4607548
Abstract: Apparatus and method for biasing the handles of a plier-type tool. The tool includes a pair of pivotally connected members, each member having a handle portion and a jaw portion joined together by an interconnecting portion. The interconnecting portions define pivot structure by which the members are rotatably connected and structure for capturing a coil spring that is operative to urge the handles apart. When embodied in an internal retaining plier, the handles are urged towards an equilibrium position. The spring capturing structure in each region comprises a slot defined by a pair of nonconverging arcuate edges joined at one end by a rectilinear edge forming a spring abutment and a spring seat at the other end including a spring retaining tongue.

  • Patent number: 4293044
Abstract: The manually-actuated, rotary-impact tool for rotatively driving a fastener has a spring in a handle for storage of energy, a rotatable tool head and an inertia member surrounding the tool head and connected to the handle via driving connections. A cam associated with the handle is provided to coact with the driving connections to disengage the driving connections when the tool head rotation is resisted by a predetermined force and the handle is rotated relative to the tool head and to allow re-engagement of the driving connections in another operative condition. A lever arm is pivotally connected to the handle so as to coact with the handle and inertia member to actuate the spring for storage of energy upon resistance of the tool head to rotation and to rotate the inertia member under the force of the stored energy of the spring and effect conversion of the kinetic energy of the inertia member to impact force on the tool head upon re-engagement of the driving connections.

  • Patent number: 4243109
Abstract: A rotary impact tool of the type for applying a torque force and having an input, output and spring-accelerated inertia members and journaled on each other for rotative movement relative to each other and a cam connected for conjoined rotation with the input member and for actuating juxtaposed pawls carried by the inertia member into and out impact engagement with circumferentially spaced teeth on the output member for driving the latter, the cam being so shaped and positioned relative to the input inertia and output members to coact with the pawls so as to provide impact engagement of the pawls with the spaced teeth of the output member in both directions of rotation. In another aspect of the invention, the cam is capable of angular adjustment relative to the input and inertia members to predetermined positions to achieve impact driving forces of different magnitude or to apply impact driving force in one direction or the opposite direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4157120
Abstract: The rotary impact mechanism has a plurality of helical springs disposed adjacent to the outer peripheral surface of a rotary inertia member which springs are anchored at one end to the inertia member and at the opposite end to a rotary driving input member so that upon relative rotative movement between the input and inertia members the springs are loaded and thereafter function to rotatively drive the inertia member. The inertia member carries at least one pawl which is capable of engagement and disengagement from a driven, toothed, output member, the pawl impacting against a tooth of the output member to drive the latter when the inertia member is rotatively driven by the springs.
