    Abstract: A ballistic body armor and dehumidification system includes a flexible carrier containing a watertight sealed pouch which itself contains a desiccant and a stack of substantially vertical layers of ballistic material whose performance degrades under certain conditions in the presence of moisture. The watertight sealed pouch is mounted into the carrier so as to cover a portion of a user's body. The desiccant is mounted into the pouch so that either it is, or its effect is, distributed uniformly across the ballistic material to uniformly reduce the humidity level within the pouch.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a pump device that can be implanted into a body passageway, such as into a bronchial passageway. The pump device can be used to pump fluid through the body passageway, such as in order to assist the expiration of fluid from a region of the lung that fluidly communicates with the body passageway. The pump device includes a housing that defines an internal chamber, wherein fluid can flow through the chamber. The housing is dimensioned for insertion into a bronchial passageway. The pump device also includes a fluid propulsion mechanism in fluid communication with the chamber. The fluid propulsion mechanism is positioned to propel fluid through the chamber so as to pump fluid through the bronchial passageway in a desired direction.

At least one optical waveguide may be formed in an optical layer above said electrical conductors. A feature is located to receive light redirected by the applicator and at least one electrical coupling path, which may be included in said feature, couples the applicator and at least one of said plurality of conductors. In a further aspect, a method for manufacturing an optical device is disclosed.

An identified region of the lung is targeted for treatment, such as to modify the flow to the targeted lung region or to achieve volume reduction or collapse of the targeted lung region. The targeted lung region is then bronchially isolated to regulate airflow into and/or out of the targeted lung region through one or more bronchial passageways that feed air to the targeted lung region. The bronchial isolation of the targeted lung region is accomplished by implanting a flow control device into a bronchial passageway that feeds air to a targeted lung region.
