  • Patent number: 6478056
Abstract: A fluid transfer nozzle for fuel oil and other fluid products allows for the one step removal of locking caps for vertical filling pipes. The locking cap includes a detent mechanism that, under the force of gravity, engages an obstruction within an input port of the pipe, preventing its rotation and therefore its removal. The nozzle has a socket within its mouth that engages the cap to allow rotation of the cap with rotation of the nozzle. Also within the nozzle mouth is a magnetic element that generates a magnetic field to draw the detent mechanism into an unlocked position against the force of gravity. With the cap so unlocked, the nozzle may be rotated to loosen the cap and allow its removal.

  • Patent number: 6444929
Abstract: A vehicle steering column stalk switch includes a multifunction switch lever having a rotatable actuator which drives a first rotatable gear. Gear teeth on the first gear engage gear teeth on a second gear mounted within a housing with zero backlash. The second gear is biased into compliant engagement with the first gear. The biasing is effected by means of at least one leaf contact resiliently cantilevered from conductive elements carried in the housing into engagement with the second gear.

  • Patent number: 6403899
Abstract: A circuit interlock switch mountable in a stalk switch apparatus includes an actuator mounted on a lever movably mounted in a housing attachable to a vehicle steering column. The actuator is moveable relative to the lever. In a first movement state, the actuator is coupled through a shaft extending through the lever to a contactor and moves the contactor between operative states upon rotation of the actuator to open and close vehicle circuits coupled through conductive traces in a substrate engaged by contacts on the contactor. A cam and cam follower are formed on the lever and the actuator to permit axial translation of the actuator relative to the lever only in certain rotated positions of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 6396011
Abstract: A multi-function switch lever apparatus mountable on a vehicle steering column includes at least one actuator and one contactor. A shaft extends through a lever pivotally mounted to a housing containing the contactor. A first end of the shaft is fixed to the first actuator. The second end of the shaft rotates a drive gear which engages and moves a linear toothed rack mounted in the housing between electrical circuit positions. Cancel members in a turn signal mechanism are biasingly mounted allowing disengagement of either cancel member from a cancel pawl when the turn signal lever is held in a turn position during rotation of the steering wheel when completing a turn. A beam change carrier is mounted in the housing and carries a pivotal contact which switches positions upon engagement with a paddle during pivotal movement of the stalk switch lever about one axis.

  • Publication number: 20010010344
Abstract: A device (1; 30; 60; 90; 120; 140) for winding pipe sealant filamentary materials (12; 44, 65, 94; 123) onto a pipe (47; 70; 102; 132; 161) comprising: (a) a retainer (2; 31; 61; 121; 142) for retaining a length of filamentary material; and (b) an elongate dispensing aid (7; 32; 62; 92; 122; 141) projecting from said retainer, the dispensing aid comprising at least one guide (8; 51; 78; 107; 135) located at a position spaced from the retainer and through which the filamentary material passes. The material is for sealing threaded pipe joints. The device may be motorized for rotational motion, for example by attachment to a power tool. The device may also have a locating portion (37; 63; 95; 124) for engaging an end of a pipe to which the filamentary material is to be applied. The locating portion may act as an automatic adjuster of the position of the device. Relative rotation of the dispensing aid and the automatic adjuster actuates the automatic adjuster.

  • Patent number: 6175719
Abstract: A payload design for a multi-spot-beam satellite communication system includes a plurality of uplink spot beam receivers and downlink spot beam transmitters, and a broadcast transmitting subsystem capable of transmitting a broadcast beam to an entire system geographical service area. An input filter-switch-matrix (IFSM) controllably selects input IF signal bands for routing to an on-board digital signal processor-router (DSPR). The DSPR subsequently routes all received point-to-point and broadcast data packets to the appropriate downlink spot or broadcast transmitting subsystems for transmission thereof. The broadcast downlink allows broadcast transmissions to occur at the highest efficiency possible, while also allowing for flexible provision of surge capacity for point-to-point transmissions on previously exhausted spot beams by selective use of the broadcast beam for such point-to-point transmissions.

  • Patent number: 6161727
Abstract: A disconnectable flow connector for connecting a fluid-containing flexible bag (1) to a fluid supply line (100) is sufficiently airtight so as to allow dispensing of fluids, especially adhesives, which are highly reactive on contact with even the least quantity of air. The bag (1) has a spout (2, 3) with a pierceable membrane (5). A valve (10) has a tapering end which can pierce and then seal the membrane, an aperture (13) at the tip, and a valve plunger (14) operable so as to be retractable from the aperture (13) to an open (fluid flow) position independently of the piercing action. A fluid pressure mechanism is provided for driving fluid from the flexible bag (1) through the flow connector to the fluid supply line (100). The mechanism consists of a housing (30,31,32,33) for containing the bag (1) and a housing end wall (34) which is moveable along the length of the housing. The bag (1) has no tendency to collapse or fold in on itself.

  • Patent number: RE36401
Abstract: Methods and an apparatus for measuring gas flow with greater reliability than earlier single-rotor and double-rotor turbine meters and dual turbine meter systems are disclosed. The apparatus comprises two independent rotors, in close proximity of each other, housed in the same meter body, but isolated from the effects of each other. No pressure and temperature correction are needed for accuracy performance comparison between the two rotors. Because of the two rotor averaging technique, the reliability of the volume totalization is greatly improved over earlier double-rotor and single-rotor designs.
