    Abstract: A lightweight thermally dissipative EMI shield for electronics is composed of both metallic (e.g., conductive) and non-metallic (e.g., nonconductive) materials. The thermally dissipative EMI shield or cover may be formed of multiple layers of metallic or conductive materials and at least one layer of non-metallic or nonconductive material. There may be a conductive base layer, a lower intermediate nonconductive layer, an upper intermediate conductive layer, and an outer nonconductive layer. The conductive layers operate to thermally dissipate heat and suppress EMI, whereas the nonconductive layers provide lightweight rigidity and stiffness to support the EMI shield and protect components from foreign object ingress or damage of a circuit card or cover is coupled.

The power unit may be selectively connected to the dialysis unit and provide power (e.g., pneumatic power in the form of pressure and/or to vacuum) to the dialysis unit for the pumps when connected to the dialysis unit, but may be incapable of providing power to the dialysis unit when disconnected from the dialysis unit. The dialysis unit and the power unit are sized and weighted to each be carried by hand by a human.

    Abstract: Implantable medical devices are provided. In one embodiment, a device includes a body having an external surface defining an outer profile of the device. The body includes a porous matrix including a series of interconnected macropores defined by a plurality of interconnected struts each including a hollow interior. A filler material substantially fills at least a portion of the series of interconnected macropores. The external surface of the body includes a plurality of openings communicating with the hollow interior of at least a portion of the plurality of interconnected struts. In a further aspect of this embodiment, the external surface includes exposed areas of the filler material and porous matrix in addition to the exposed openings. In another aspect, the porous matrix is formed from a bioresorbable ceramic and the filler material is a biologically stable polymeric material. Still, other aspects related to this and other embodiments are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A drain cassette for a dialysis unit has a fluid channel between venous and arterial connection ports, and a valve may controllably open and close fluid communication between a drain outlet port and the venous connection port or the arterial connection port. A blood circuit assembly and drain cassette may be removable from the dialysis unit, e.g., by hand and without the use of tools. A blood circuit assembly may include a single, unitary member that defines portions of a pair of blood pumps, control valves, channels to accurately position flexible tubing for an occluder, an air trap support, and/or other portions of the assembly. A blood circuit assembly engagement device may assist with retaining a blood circuit assembly on the dialysis unit, and/or with removal of the assembly. An actuator may operate a retainer element and an ejector element that interact with the assembly.

The distal face can define at least one topographical ridge or groove feature to induce plasticization of a material in response to an axial force and a rotational force applied by the distal face to the material. The friction extrusion die can define a central passage to carry an extrudate of the material in a proximal direction in response to the applied axial and rotational forces. The proximal end can define a faceted cross-sectional profile to mate a with a corresponding receiving end of a tool holder. The faceted cross-sectional profile can be sized and shaped to receive the rotational force through engagement by the tool holder of respective faces defined by the faceted cross-sectional profile.

An axial position of the tapered mandrel can be adjusted relative to the die face during the rotation and translation such that a second extrudate portion is generated having a different inner dimension compared to the first portion, thereby varying a wall thickness between portions.

The balancing pod also includes a membrane that forms two balancing chambers. Also included in the cassette is at least two reciprocating pressure displacement membrane pumps. The pumps are within the housing and they pump the fluid from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet line and pump the second fluid from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet.

Stamped aluminum components including one or more portions having an HRB hardness of greater than 87 are also provided. Processes are also provided for fabricating an aluminum component from an aluminum sheet. The processes can include modifying formability of at least one discrete portion of an aluminum sheet, and compressing and/or expanding at least a portion of the one discrete portion to form a fabricated component. The fabricated component can include at least one aluminum member comprising a compressed and/or expanded modified discrete portion.
