Publication number: 20070022301Abstract: A system and method for authenticating an online user by using different and independent communication services to enhance security. A key server validates the factors of authentication, namely a first factor (username/password) and a second factor (key). The key server generates and sends the key to the user with a different and independent communication service, e.g., telephone, SMS or email. The user then submits the key using the online communication service. A third factor, e.g., a second password or a biometric symbol of the user, can also be used. Validation of the biometric symbol can be a prerequisite to delivery of the key to the user. A plurality of the independent services can be daisy-chained.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2006Publication date: January 25, 2007Inventors: J. Nicholson, Paul Murphy, Ivo Rothschild

Publication number: 20040002683Abstract: A percutaneous medical insertion device for positioning a tubular member or a catheter within an interior cavity or a vein. The catheter having a flexible end portion and an opening that removeably receives a needle. The flexible end portion is essentially straight when the needle is positioned in the flexible end portion and the flexible end portion essentially curls when the needle is removed from the flexible end portion. The catheter has an opening that allows for the creation of a ninety degree angle of the catheter and simultaneously allowing a needle to be inserted through the flexible end of the catheter. After insertion into the interior cavity or the vein, the needle is removed from the catheter. The flexible end portion of the catheter curls when the needle is removed from the catheter to protect the interior of the interior cavity or the vein as the catheter is advanced.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2002Publication date: January 1, 2004Inventors: Thomas J. Nicholson, William Jay Nicholson, W. Jay Nicholson

Publication number: 20040002725Abstract: A percutaneous dilational medical insertion device and method comprising a needle removeably disposed in a catheter and a tubular member. The catheter has an inflatable balloon member disposed between a first catheter end and a second catheter end. The second catheter end having a flexible end portion. The needle has a tip that extends beyond the second catheter end that is percutaneously inserted into an interior cavity. After insertion into the interior cavity, the needle is removed from the catheter. When the needle is removed, the flexible end portion of the catheter curls to protect the interior cavity as the catheter is advanced. The catheter is advanced until the inflatable balloon member is received in a wall of the interior cavity. The inflatable balloon member is dilated to form a passageway. The tubular member disposed about the catheter proximate the first catheter end is then advanced into the passageway.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2002Publication date: January 1, 2004Inventors: Thomas J. Publication number: 20010037591Abstract: In a preferred embodiment of the invention, an outdoor sign has a plurality of display modules, each hermetically sealed, for forming a hermetically sealed large sign screen. Each module is preferably formed of a lightweight plastic enclosure with an open interior containing circuitry and light emitting diodes. Means for minimizing deflection of the front panel are incorporated into the enclosure. One such means includes a single restrictive vent for pressure equalization to minimize deflection of the face portion. The means also includes an internal diaphragm to maintain the integrity of the hermetic seal. A feature and advantage of the invention is that moisture and other containments are effectively precluded from entry into the chamber containing the circuitry and LED's of the display sign.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2001Publication date: November 8, 2001Inventors: Timothy J. Patent number: 6136364Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing a microcapsule flavor delivery system. In the method, a mixture of a flavoring material selected from the group consisting of an oil soluble flavor dissolved in an oil and an o/w emulsion flavor and a protein solution is provided. The mixture is subjected to low shear mixing to provide an o/w water pre-emulsion. The pre-emulsion is subjected to high shear mixing or sonication to provide an o/w emulsion having a coating of protein around the internal oil droplets. The o/w emulsion is mixed with a liquified hard fat which is solid at room temperature. The mixture of hard fat and o/w emulsion is atomized onto a planar surface or into a fluid to provide microcapsules which are an o/w/o multiple emulsion having a flavoring material in the internal oil phase or o/w emulsion.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1994Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Kraft Foods, Inc.Inventors: Zohar M. Patent number: 5934840Abstract: An excavation support structure has a vertical face and includes an array of two or more soil-cement columns positioned internal to the vertical face. The columns are positioned within the array so that each of the columns is not connected by soil-cement to any other column. Soil surrounds the soil-cement columns except where the soil-cement columns meet the vertical surface. The soil-cement columns are distributed within the support structure so as to form a composite structure with the soil.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: GeoconInventor: Peter J. Patent number: 5577276Abstract: The present invention relates to a bedding system for use in the interior of an infants crib. This invention enables the bedding to be changed quickly and easily. In its broadest context, the system employs a bumper pad which is adapted to be secured within the crib structure and a sheet which is adapted to be secured to the bumper pad. Thus, in use, the bumper pad can remain fixed to the crib structure and the sheet removed and replaced when new bedding is desired.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1996Date of Patent: November 26, 1996Inventors: Beverley A. Nicholson, Kevin J. Nicholson

Patent number: 5521253Abstract: This invention relates to polymer particles that are acid-free in the swellable polymer core and to hollow polymer particles derived therefrom, and to a process for the production of these particles. The acid-free core advantageously decreases the polymer particle's affinity to water. Applicants have discovered that non-carboxylated latexes having a variety of Tg's will swell at temperatures higher than the Tg of the polymer. These latex particles are useful as opacifying plastic pigments for various coatings and particularly as gloss-enhancing plastic pigments for paper and paperboard coatings. Preparation of the hollow polymer particle comprises the use of (meth)acrylate ester monomers, vinyl esters of carboxylic acids or a mixture thereof which are hydrolyzable and swellable at higher temperatures in alkaline environments. The particles may be encapsulated with a hard shell.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1995Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: The Dow Chemical CompanyInventors: Do I. Lee, Michael R. Mulders, Dwayne J.
