  • Patent number: 8942911
Abstract: A control system for a vehicle includes an error detection module and a remedial control module. The error detection module detects whether an accelerator of the vehicle is stuck is based on vehicle speed, a position of the accelerator, and one of a pressure applied to a brake of the vehicle and a status of a parking brake of the vehicle. The remedial control module, when the accelerator is stuck, at least one of resets the position of the accelerator and decreases torque output of a powertrain system.

  • Patent number: 8635003
Abstract: A control system for an engine includes a control module and a resistor. The resistor is connected in series between the control module and a non-contact position sensor. The control module selectively detects a fault of the non-contact position sensor based on a voltage drop across the resistor. A method for controlling an engine includes providing a resistor connected in series between a control module and a non-contact position sensor, and selectively detecting a fault of the non-contact position sensor based on a voltage drop across the resistor.

  • Patent number: 8090522
Abstract: A system for an engine with a turbocharger system includes a rate determination module, a limiting rate selection module, a throttle inlet absolute pressure (TIAP) calculation module, and a throttle control module. The rate determination module generates a pressure rate value based on a pressure difference between a current TIAP signal from a TIAP sensor and a previous TIAP signal. The limiting rate selection module selects a limiting rate based on the pressure rate value. The TIAP calculation module generates a calculated TIAP signal based on the limiting rate and the current TIAP signal. The throttle control module generates a throttle control signal based on the calculated TIAP signal and actuates an inlet throttle valve of the engine based on the throttle control signal.

  • Patent number: 7693625
Abstract: A control module for a vehicle is provided. The control module includes at least one device driver implemented by the control module. The at least one device driver generates a control signal to a device of the vehicle and generates a state of health signal based on an operational status of the device driver. A processor implemented by the engine control module monitors the state of health signal from the at least one device driver and generates a running reset command to the at least one device driver based on a fault status of the state of health signal.

  • Patent number: 6123241
Abstract: An internal combustion powered tool, such as a nail or fastener driver, and a control system, spark source, and rotary valve for use in an internal combustion powered tool are disclosed. The tool may include, for example, a cylinder and a piston reciprocally moveable within the cylinder. A combustion chamber is defined at one end of the cylinder, with the piston comprising a portion of one end of the combustion chamber. The tool may have a fastener driver associated with the piston, and a magazine for feeding fasteners into registration with the driver. A fuel flow passageway extends between a fuel source and the combustion chamber, and a metering valve controls the flow of fuel to the combustion chamber. A spark source within the combustion chamber is provided for igniting the fuel, and an intake and exhaust valve that includes a pair of diametrically opposed apertures is provided.

  • Patent number: 5558343
Abstract: A water pump is disclosed for use in an internal combustion engine. The water pump includes a seal assembly for use between the rotatable pump shaft and the water pump housing which is fixed relative to the shaft. The seal assembly includes a base carrier member which is fixed longitudinally and rotationally with respect to the pump shaft so as to rotate with the shaft. The base carrier member includes a seat for a first end of a compression spring member disposed coaxially about said cylindrical body. The seal assembly also includes a sliding carrier member which extends coaxially relative to the pump shaft in longitudinally slidable, rotationally fixed, coaxial disposition with the base carrier member so as to rotate with the base carrier member and the pump shaft and move longitudinally relative to said base carrier member. A spring member operates to move the sliding carrier member longitudinally along the water pump shaft relative to the fixed base carrier.
