Patent number: 10824163Abstract: A method and a system can generate a representation of a working area of an autonomous lawn mower. The system can include an autonomous lawn mower and a base station, and a boundary wire forming a closed loop which can be connected with the base station. The lawn mower and the base station interact such that the lawn mower can determine whether it is in its home position, a predetermined position that is taken when the mower returns to the base station. The lawn mower further includes a memory, for storing values from a movement sensor. A trajectory is generated based on the values, wherein a processor is configured to calculate an error between the position and orientation according to the trajectory and the home position. This total position error and total orientation error is then used to correct the position and corresponding orientations of the trajectory.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2018Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: HONDA RESEARCH INSTITUTE EUROPE GMBHInventors: Nils Einecke, Sven Rebhan, Mathias Franzius, Jörg Deigmöller, Keiji Muro

Patent number: 9987898Abstract: Embodiments of the invention address the area of predictive suspension control system for a vehicle, particularly a two-wheel vehicle such as a motor cycle or a scooter. The system includes a stereo sensor unit which for generating image data, a computing unit which extracts a relevant image portion from the image data based on future vehicle path data, and calculates road unevenness on a future vehicle path of the vehicle based on the generated image data. A suspension control unit generates an adaptation signal for adapting the suspension based on the calculated road unevenness. The computing unit adapts a search direction of a stereo algorithm or a correlation area of the stereo algorithm based on a lean angle of the vehicle to generate the three-dimensional partial image data from the relevant image portion, and fits a road model to the three-dimensional partial image data to calculate the road unevenness.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2016Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: HONDA RESEARCH INSTITUTE EUROPE GMBHInventors: Jörg Deigmöller, Nils Einecke, Herbert Janssen, Oliver Fuchs

Patent number: 9454703Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining a static element in images captured by an imaging means mounted on a movable device. The method comprises steps of acquiring a first image and a second image captured by the imaging means. The first image and the second image are captured at capture times separated by a time difference and the method is characterized by the time difference being selected depending on motion parameters of the movable device. A determination measure for corresponding regions of the first and the second image for representing a similarity of the corresponding regions is calculated and a static element of the first and the second image is determined based on the calculated determination measure. An output signal comprising information on the determined static element is generated.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2015Date of Patent: September 27, 2016Assignee: HONDA RESEARCH INSTITUTE EUROPE GMBHInventors: Nils Einecke, Jörg Deigmöller

Patent number: 8933797Abstract: The present invention proposes a warning system that can be implemented in any kind of vehicle, in order to efficiently detect moving objects. The system utilizes at least one camera for a continuous imaging of the surroundings of the vehicle. Thereby, moving objects can be monitored. A computing unit is programmed to estimate a motion of any moving object based on a pixel motion in the camera image. If a dangerously moving object is detected, a warning unit can be used for issuing a warning signal. To take such a decision, the estimated motion of at least one of the moving objects can be correlated or compared to predetermined motion patterns.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2012Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: Honda Research Institute Europe GmbHInventors: Jörg Deigmöller, Julian Eggert, Herbert Janssen, Oliver Fuchs
