Patent number: 11649523Abstract: A process for roasting of metal concentrate wherein concentrate particles are fed into a roaster where they are thermally treated at a temperature in the range of 500 and 1200° C. in a fluidized bed to form a calcine. At least parts of the calcine are withdrawn from the roaster together with a gas stream as a solid fraction. Concentrate particles with a diameter at least 50% smaller than the average diameter of the concentrate particles are separated as small particles and/or particles from the gas-solid-fraction are separated in at least one step as small calcine particles and/or particles are gained in another hydrometallurgical step as other particles. Defined particles are pelletized, whereby at least 80% of the pellets feature a diameter of at least 80% of the concentrate particles average diameter. The pellets are fed into the roaster.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2017Date of Patent: May 16, 2023Assignee: METSO OUTOTEC FINLAND OYInventors: Jochen Güntner, Alexandros Charitos, Jörg Hammerschmidt

Publication number: 20220411310Abstract: Producing a molded body made of opaque quartz glass includes providing SiO2 grains obtained by comminuting quartz glass having a purity of at least 99.9 wt % SiO2, forming a slurry containing a suspension liquid and the SiO2 grains and which has a total solids content, wet grinding the SiO2 grains in the slurry so as to form ground SiO2 grain particles, forming a porous green body from the slurry, and sintering the porous green body. To provide a low cost quartz glass, the wet grinding of the SiO2 grains takes place at least temporarily in the presence of SiO2 nanoparticles, the proportion of which in the total solids content of the slurry is in the range of 0.1 wt % to 10 wt %, and the slurry has a solids content in the range of 76 to 80 wt % after addition of the SiO2 nanoparticles and after the wet grinding.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2022Publication date: December 29, 2022Applicant: Heraeus Quarzglas GmbH & Co. Patent number: 10894999Abstract: In a process for producing uranium and/or at least one rare earth element selected from the group consisting of cerium, dysprosium, erbium, europium, gadolinium, holmium, lanthanum, lutetium, neodymium, praseodymium, promethium, samarium, scandium, terbium, thulium, ytterbium and yttrium out of an ore, the ore is mixed with sulphuric acid with a concentration of at least 95 wt.-% to a mixture, wherein the mixture is granulated to pellets. The pellets are fed into at least one fluidized bed fluidized by a fluidizing gas for a thermal treatment at temperatures between 200 and 1000° C. The at least one fluidized bed is developed such that it at least partly surrounds a gas supply tube for a gas or a gas mixture fed into the reactor and the gas or gas mixture is used as a heat transfer medium.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2016Date of Patent: January 19, 2021Assignee: OUTOTEC (FINLAND) OYInventors: Maciej Wrobel, Jochen Güntner, Alexandros Charitos, Jörg Hammerschmidt

Publication number: 20190017143Abstract: A process for thermal treatment of a sulfur-containing ore in which the ore is calcined at temperatures of between 600 and 1200° C. in the presence of oxygen in a reactor so that between 1 and 90% by weight of sulfur contained in the ore is burned to sulfur dioxide and impurities contained are driven off in gaseous form. The exhaust gas being produced and containing the sulfur dioxide is fed into a gas purification comprising at least one component and/or the calcined ore is fed into at least one further process stage. An exhaust gas from the gas purification and/or the process stage and/or a gas used for cooling within the gas purification or for cooling within a further process stage is at least partially returned back into the reactor as recycling gas having a temperature of >100° C.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2018Publication date: January 17, 2019Inventors: Hannes STORCH, Karl-Heinz DAUM, Jörg HAMMERSCHMIDT, Stefan BRÄUNER, Alexandros CHARITOS, Jochen GÜNTNER
